I got it for our tailgate this year. We run two TV's and streaming YouTube TV. We get out on campus about 9:00 am and stream all day till its time to break down and head into the game.
I also opted for the 50GB plan.
September we had 3 home games, for those three Saturdays we ran through 91 gigs of streaming. For October we've only used 47 gigs.
Hope that helps!

I just read through the fine print, Ocean Mode is only available in the Roam Unlimited plan, not the Roam 50gb plan. So it would still be $165/month plus $2/GB for every GB of data you use beyond 12 miles offshore.

That’s how it reads officially to me also, but there’s quite a bit of chatter online that as long as you turn the Ocean Mode on before leaving 12 miles it will work. It maybe a loophole in that you can’t turn it on after 12 miles so they couldn’t guarantee it.

From what I found if you have the 50GB plan Ocean Mode isn't visible to toggle on/off on your interface on the app.
If you get it and it indeed works please update, I don't think we'd use it enough to justify the Unlimited plan.

Yeah that seems back and forth online.!I can’t figure out if its previous software versions that allowed it or if some users just don’t know because it’s not a clear option.

Starlink just sent out an email this morning that base Roam plan is going from $50/50 GB to $50/100 GB.
Since the first month that I posted earlier in the thread, our usage at the camp was the following:
October - 113 GB for 13 days of usage
November - 118 GB for 12 days usage
December - 24 GB for 3 days usage
So around 8-10 GB per day for texts, calls social media and football games.

Seems that the ocean mode is just for country territorial waters. I do remember a story about some Navy folks getting in trouble for having one on board the ship. Anything past the 12 mile is international waters, so it makes me think they are restricted to the country of the subscription.

Important notes:
Roam Unlimited users can opt-in and pay for Ocean Mode* to enable coverage beyond 12 nautical miles or to connect in territorial waters for longer than the 5 consecutive days/60 days a year cap where Starlink provides active coverage around the world. Ocean Mode also provides higher network priority than Roam data everywhere Starlink is available.

We use it in south texas. It's great. 6 different houses stream off it with no issues at all.

To add onto that, I got an email that since I had the $120 residential plan that was being renamed to residential max, I qualified to get a free Starlink mini to use it to roam. Just putting that out there if anyone else is on the package to look out for the email. I actually opted to drop my plan down to the 100m plan since I only get upwards of 60ish mbps anyway. Gonna save me $70/month. Still easily works for our needs and I work from home and stream on multiple tvs.

Starlink is free if you live in Iran.

From my online research, you have to have internet/ phone service to toggle it on and then it can only be used for 5 straight days. The people that know how to use it seem to be able to use it. The people that don’t, refer to the fine print.
I haven’t seen anyone that knows how to use it, try it out and not be able to use it.
I think the reason for the “12 miles” is that’s generally cell phone range. So they can’t promise anyone the ability to use it because you have to be able to toggle the settings with cell signal.
This is all mostly posts on sailing threads and what not, but I’ve yet to see anyone that knows how to use it have an issue.
I may try it this spring if there’s a return policy and update.
ETA: it seems like there’s legal issues because it’s not continuously allowed and you have to toggle it on with cell phone signal before leaving cell signal. So the fine print gives them a legal out

No kidding? I’m going to find that officially.
So for $50/ month plus $2/gb any boat can have it for an emergency?
My buddy has it (starlink) on his boat and we use it like crazy offshore. I just sent a message to see which service he has. It has never NOT worked. Even on cloudy days

So he tried the roaming service on his boat but he said it did not work going offshore. He has now switched to the full service like $250 a month.

Update to my original post,
I got it, absolutely love it. We've watched LSU football games with 0 buffering in an area with no phone signal at all.
I got the email that they are upgrading me to 100 gigs for the same price of 50 dollars per month.
Starlink Roam has been a game changer.

Has anyone had issues with it along the gulf coast states? Outages, drop out, streaming speed?

This massive cell outage seems like warning enough.
With AI writing its own code its a matter of time before someone fricks local ISPs and mobile data.
$340 for the unit + $5 a month to have it on standby ready to roll seems like you buying peace of mind. Also for folks who work remote.
AC-DC powered and will run off power tool batteries with a $25 adapter off Amazon.
Plan to activate, put data on pause and sore away to have if SHTF.
$5 a month for pay-per-view to watch TEOTWAWKI? For way shite has been going this year, who knows.
Also look for the referral code that offers a free month for both parties.
