Just saw a NSSF post saying the efforts system has been crashing.

Normal volume is 2500 per day

Yesterday, 1/1, they processed 150,000.

Yep. Have one waiting to certify and talked to the gun shop this morning. They told me the system is crashing or just down all together. I'm just going to wait a few days before I even try.

My form was just approved. Submitted Jan 1 approved Jan 5th.

Now we see how long it takes to get the call.

Looking at getting my first can. Will be a rimfire and looking at the Sparrow 22 or the Dead Air Mask. Do yall usually buy local or through an online retailer and ship to your FFL?

I do mine online with Silencer Shop and send to a dealer. I got setup with them years ago and just had to update a new photo and was good to go. Did the photo against a white wall at my house on my phone and submitted to their website.

I’m not sure how the process works if you send to an FFL vs a dealer. I don’t think I paid anything additional by sending to a dealer. If you can send to an FFL non dealer I would imagine they will charge a fee to handle the paperwork.

Don’t waste your money on a Sparrow, there’s many rimfire cans that are better. Mine just collects dust.

Well, I finally got the call that everything was inline to submit my Form 4's for their certifications, going to be doing it shortly. That was 27 days if your counting for Silencer Shop to get to this point (5 days was average before), actually their part was 25 days I guess, the cans got to my dealer Monday. I made 3 calls to SS yesterday and was on hold for an hour total without ever speaking to anyone, 20 mins hold time each call and then it would just hang up. Left a prompt for a call back and never received one. My dealer said he can't even get sales contact up there to return a call, hope they made a bunch of money in the last month because they burned a bunch of bridges, they got me for $400 in stamps that did me no good in the end. So we'll see how things go after submitting the foams, ATF site is crashing daily according to my dealer, he tried several yesterday and some had up to 15 error codes pop up while trying to fill them out, at which point they would give up trying. Below is a bulletin from the dealers trade association talking about the issues.

that's kind of why i don't mess with silencer shop. i have more autonomy with my local dealer and do everything through the eForms website.

they get their suppressors from their own distributors. if i want a specific can and they don't have it in stock, they'll order it and it usually delivers within a week.

i go in, go through eForms, walk out, and then wait for approval.

i'll never understand why people use Silencer Shop or their kiosk. you still need an eForms account, and yet, people pay the middleman for some reason.

the kiosk is $5k and the store they're located in doesn't receive any kind of commission on sales. it's a racket and i hope SS goes under due to their lobbying of keeping the NFA intact.

My local store and one of my closest friends have kiosks and they both said that they get paid on any silencer that is picked up at their shop.

Well both of forms have been submitted. My dealer has been trying to get forms into the ATF for 5 days now, he has been successful on one that was done in his shop. Mine are the 2nd and 3rd total he has gotten submitted successfully and first ones done remotely. On the first can we got the error code System Admin Error 5 times, on the second can we were kicked off after 9 tries. Luckily it saved all my info when he logged back in and after 7 more tries the second one went through. Now I wait on the feds, supposedly they are still reviewing ones that paid for the stamps and will do all of those before starting on the ones submitted after the first with 0$ stamps.

Interesting, I was told the opposite a week ago.

ETA: regardless, I wonder if the commission is less than what they would make if they dealt in suppressors themselves.

I just realized I needed an eforms account. Thanks it’s been a minute since I’ve bought a silencer.

Either way the kiosk made it easy for everyone on my trust to get fingerprinted and set up for future purchases.

A gun store can just as easily purchase a fingerprint scanner and take your prints, and even email them to you. That’s what my local store does.

I can only assume those scanners are significantly more cheaper than a kiosk.

It might be cheaper than a kiosk but they likely get more business funneled to them via the kiosk. I don’t really know, but it was easy enough for me as a customer to get it done. They’re going to get my business regardless because they’re the closest place to me.

I think you’re mixing up companies. Silencer central are the ones who were opposed of getting rid of it. Silencer Shop wanted to get rid of it.

Also I specifically asked my local shop if it was better for me to buy directly from them and they said it did not matter. Said think of silencer shop as their extended inventory from what they had on the shelf.

We can test this.

Ordered my mask 12/13 and delayed stamp to Jan. 1 to avoid the tax stamp. I’ll post if I ever get the damn thing

It’s the opposite of this if anything, there are no Form 3 fees when transferring from Silencer Shop to your dealer with the kiosk.
