Also I specifically asked my local shop if it was better for me to buy directly from them and they said it did not matter. Said think of silencer shop as their extended inventory from what they had on the shelf.

sounds like i was given bad information

My local shop just posted that they’re getting approvals back in 3 days right now.

Mine was approved in 4 days but t’m waiting to see how long it takes for the actual can to show up for pickup. I’m not sure if there’s any backend paperwork once form is approved that could slow the process.

The Form 4 submitted to the ATF was approved in 4 days? Also, you were able to submit the Form 4 before your dealer even had the can in hand?

So I bought the can December 13th and checked the box on Silencer Shop to delay the tax stamp to Jan.1 to delay the $200 stamp.

January 1st I got the below email.
This is to advise you that the status of your eForms submission with the subject Permit/Control number has changed to SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS

January 5th I got the below email.
This is to advise you that the status of your eForms submission with the subject Permit/Control number has changed to APPROVED

Maybe I’m missing something.

Bought mine at local shop. Was certified Monday. Curious to see how much longer I have to wait. They said best guess was about 5-7 days.

NFA will mail the form and stamp to your dealer.

They will call you when they get it. They can't do anything until they have that in hand. I assume it's the same there but don't know. After the shop gets your form and stamp you will need to fill out a 4473 (background check) to get your can.

I bet that’s where the hold up will be.

Correct, it was about 3 weeks for SS to get the can to my dealer so that is the stage your at now. Your dealer will probably have their part done in 2 to 3 days then you have to go in or remotely fill out the background check and submit the Form 4 to the ATF. How long once it gets to them is anyone's guess at this point, that is the stage I'm at as of yesterday afternoon.

this silencer shop process is confusing.

if you're approved, the approved Form 4 with stamp should've been attached to the email as a PDF document if it was done through the eForms website.

you and you're dealer would've gotten the same, or similar, email.

the day i get approved is the same day i go into the store and pick up my can with a filled out 4473 form (non-silencer shop process).

i can see a written Form 4 not being attached to the email and the ATF snail-mailing it out, but i don't know, for any reason, why someone would go through the hassle of filling out a Form 4 by hand unless you're some boomer that doesn't have internet access.

It was attached.

I just did the process on my B&T in November and it was the same process. I didn’t have to do anything once I got this last email saying I was approved. Got a text from dealer walked in filled out my background form and walked out with the can.

I was confused on the first one and I called my dealer because it sent me a link to do some stuff but my dealer said they take care of all that for me and would contact me when it was in.

ETA: regardless, I wonder if the commission is less than what they would make if they dealt in suppressors themselves.

I was curious of this. I called my shop and asked if he had one in stock. I saw that it was in stock on SS, but when he said he could order one I had him do it because I figured he would benefit more that way. I never mentioned it being in stock on SS but should have asked how it affects them.

Also, although I don’t need it, the single shot trust option that silencer shop offers seems pretty slick. I was tempted to utilize it before all the trustees got fingerprints done. I probably would have if I wasn’t holding out for a $0 tax stamp.

I hope you get it soon, but from my prior experience w/ Optics Planet, don't hold your breath. After being burned by OP one too many times, I no longer even check their prices. Multiple times I've ordered an item from them but when they didn't send me tracking information, I'd check and find out the item had not been shipped and was not in stock.

When’s the last time you ordered?

They’re pretty transparent nowadays on ship times and in stock vs out of stock. They even email you immediately afterwards if your item isn’t in stock. Their prices are lowest dollar for a lot of things, especially if you wait for one of their coupons which they offer almost every couple of weeks. Ive found it’s one of the few places still offering discounts on stuff these days.

Also, for whoever’s interested, I’ve found Browning’s clothing to be comparable to Sitka for a fraction of the price on OP. I’ve also ordered several things from Kuiu (not on OP) and have been disappointed with everything except the attack pants and belt I’ve bought from them. I haven’t been disappointed with browning yet.

Sorry for the rant, but I think OP is great if you’re willing to have a bit of patience for certain items.

I actually like my Kuiu stuff so far. I haven’t bought any real cold gear, everything has been light weight hoodies, jackets, hunting shirts and attack pants. I’ve got a lot of badlands stuff also and I like the kuiu pants better than anything I’ve found from Badlands so far.

Optics Olanet has actually gotten pretty good displaying “in stock” and “backorder” options. They’ll even mention the quantity the have in stock if the inventory is low.

Glad to hear they've improved, but the other places I order from either don't allow you to order a product that's not in stock or immediately put it on back order if you choose.

I'll put them back on the list of websites I check one I'm looking to buy something. Thx.

Has anyone used any of the Silencer Shop dealers near Nashville? I'm about to get that first one going for the AR. Leaning toward AB A10, open to others. Not going super expensive because the gun itself ain't fancy. If/when I get one for hunting rifle I'll get pickier about weight and such.

ETA: Or a YMH Turbo T3...shopping is fun, I'll probably go somewhere and ask questions.
