Yes. Haiti is a resort-like utopia.

Tourism was their main source of income back in the 1960s-70s. There was an AIDS outbreak in the 80s and the tourist industry sunk.

Probably attention. They can go to social media and post pictures saying "look we are helping". All for attention.

That’s why Jesus did it? Shame on you for assuming the worst in other people.

They’re Pentecostal Holiness. They don’t care what you think or pretty much anyone else. And no one goes to Haiti for the attention.

Awful story. Killed for spreading the gospel.

They will receive white robes in Heaven.

That probably says more about the overall lack of industry in Haiti than anything else. At their peak, they never had even half the visitors that the Dominican Republic has had.

Today, the DR has more visitors in a week than Haiti has in a year (even prior to the total collapse in 2023).

Who would have been fool enough not to evacuate months ago when this all started? What did they think would happen?

I do not understand exactly why people do things like this.
Their faith asks them to do it.

Is there not people here in the US that need the same sort of services these people are providing?
yes. Ironically missionaries from African countries have been coming to the US to spread the word of God because their African church sees, in their opinion, how far we have strayed. That is a sad state of affairs right there.
quote:

Or is it like some sort of vacation to them?
definitely not a vacation. The intent, usually, is to go to some of the worst places... places of greatest need (see above). I ran into them in both Central Asia and Africa; much respect. While I'm armed to the teeth they refused to carry anything but a multi-tool but would go to same places.

** Sometimes I just shook my head in disbelief at the ineffectiveness of it all. In partnership with the US Dept. of State some missionaries were drilling water wells in the Fergana. Soros foundation operatives were coming right behind them and poisoning said wells (to ruin the reputation of both Christian Missionaries AND the US). Their faith prevented them from doing anything about it and the State Dept.... well, they are fricking useless anyway.

They were doing what Jesus called Christians to do. Love can change evil. Indifference can’t change a thing.

I understand the premise- and I only wish it were that simple.

But most forms of evil will never be stopped by love and faith alone.

Yeah, their second biggest income was producing baseballs. The balls we used in youth leagues were all stamped: 'Made in Haiti.'

Hope they were just killed instead of kidnapped then killed. That woman would've gone through a lot of trauma.

This thread is like porn for Democrat voters.

Two white christians killed by foreigners? AWESOME!!

Only thing missing for them is the video so they can watch it on repeat like the Oct 7 attack.

Why don't you go ahead and link where they did this for attention?

That's the great thing about you sick, twisted lefties. People you hate and wish death on are actually out there doing great things for the people you claim to be for. Yet, this is how you act towards these individuals, simply because you saw their skin color and religion. You hate them and want them dead. Period.

These people aren't like your ilk. Their definition of help is building things, not destroying them.

You really are a sick frick.

Sad but I see no legitimate reason for these missionaries to fly off to these far flung places when there are people in the US who need these same types of services.

They were most likely more invested in the people they were helping than they were in the idea of their own safety.

I would’ve advocated for them to leave. But they were likely convinced that leaving would have been the end of the impact they were having on the people they were helping.

I know missionaries hearts are in the right place but they are so fricking naive. They think everyone is as nice as they are. I would physically retrain my son or daughter from going to countries like Haiti or most any shite hole country.

Not to say this is a point you're making, but a common criticism from atheists is the "what about people in other parts of the world who haven't heard" argument.
