Carter was elected as a result of blowback to Watergate and Ford pardoning Nixon. Carter administration was a disaster, similar to Biden, inflation, high interest rates, terrible economy, awful/mainly disastrous foreign policy.
But Carter was a much better human being than Biden or Harris.
What is shocking you saw a Reagan landslide as a result of the bad Carter administration. It was a wipeout. You would think that you would see the same now.as.a.result of the Biden disaster. But there are many factors in play now that weren't back then.

You nailed it Bandit. I’d agree with 98% of your post - including the disillusionment. We live in a society of shallow fools, it seems.

Carter was probably the book-smartest POTUS we’ve had.
He lacked in real world sense and stuck to his ideology too much, and that made him one of the worst.

Carter was a quitter - he literally was willing to quit on America and settle for failure.
I think it was because he allowed his Baptist piety to overrule his ability to accept the realities of the profane (in the spiritual sense) world.
Translation: he was too soft…
Well put
Biden is just corrupt and incompetent. A dangerous combination.

Great list. It’s difficult to overstate the damage both LBJ and Biden have done to the country.

Best part of Carter was "Billy Beer"
Worst part of Carter was Iran holding the US Embassy and employees hostage for a year

If Clinton was so politically skilled, why did it take 3rd party candidates to get him elected?
You think he didn't have some role in getting those '3rd party' candidates on the ballot??
All you have to do is look at how Perot acted - he dropped out of the 'race' when it looked like Clinton was going to coast in to victory - citing some garbage about his daughter's wedding (I think that was it - maybe it was something else, but it was trivial) - THEN when the polls got close again, he jumped right back in - just enough to deny Bush the victory. (Of course it didn't help that Bush all but stopped campaigning in the final months.)
quote:
had to be brought in kicking and screaming to sign the GOP House and Senate legislation that made him look successful
But he did it - that is where is political instincts kicked in - he knew the legislation was good and it would cost him re-election if he didn't sign it. His 'plan' was to work to get rid of it in his next election, but when it became popular and successful, he immediately backtracked and took FULL CREDIT for getting it done!!
Point is - he did not have any driving political ambitions at all, he just wanted the acclaim - and would switch directions in an instant if it benefitted him at the moment. With his instincts, I seriously wished he had been a hard driving conservative. But he was guided by HRC.
From a strictly intellectual standpoint, he may have been our most gifted POTUS. In one of his SOTU addresses, the staff had put up a copy of his last year's address into the teleprompter - he delivered the entire SOTU strictly from memory. In that regard he was a lot like Huey P Long. Of course his moral code was absent.
I think he and HRC set up the China ties that has driven a lot of our ills since.
the overall point is that Trump is the only candidate we have had since Eisenhower who was totally disassociated with the 'one world order' cabal that has been the major driver of our political scene since Nixon.
Trump is all in on ONE mission - Make AMERICA great again - and invite others along for the ride IF they choose to cooperate.

Freedom only works for a truly moral and religious people.
THIS is the wisdom of the ages - Ben Franklin said as much when we adopted the constitution.
Until LBJ, we pretty much fit that description, but he is the a-hole who first saw the advantage of creating a permanent underclass which could be lured into relying on government assistance for their every physical need, and to disillusion them from any moral code.
His "great society" destroyed the black nuclear family - and put them back on a 'plantation' where all they had to do was 'vote right' and any other responsibility was not only lifted from them, but was outright encouraged.
So we have been nourishing this 'new' breed of 'americans' who can be counted on to 'vote right' and create mass disturbances on command, or even suggestion. Black churches have become by and large just NGOs who are out campaigning for democrat issues every day and rioting against any conservative initiative that gets any sort of attention whatsoever.
IF ONLY we could re-instill the basic 'nuclear family' concept back into the black community, our problems would be solved in an instant - and within 3 generations they would be right where they should be - complete equals in every aspect of life, not just in the court system. As it is, they have gone backwards for 3 generations.

I'm too young to remember Carter well but like Biden he had to fight off an insurgent coup from within his own party during his re-election campaign. Teddy Kennedy and a large group of Democrats launched a vicious primary attack against Carter in 1980.
Carter's approval ratings were sub-20% and everything he touched seemed to turn to shite. It was even worse than it is today believe it or not. Plus he wasn't a great campaigner to begin with. A lot of people expected him to roll over and relinquish the throne, just like Biden did. But surprisingly Carter put up a huge fight and went junk yard dog on Kennedy and the other mutineers. Even more surprisingly the press joined Carter's side and attacked Kennedy over Chappaquiddick and others blunders. Carter ended up thrashing Kennedy in the primaries.
Carter survived the battle but lost the war. He was weak and beaten down when he dragged himself into the Fall general election and the message was that even half the Democrats didn't want this guy to be President anymore. The Reagan beatdown was a foregone conclusion.
Unfortunately Democrats learned a lesson from this. They knew better than to let a wounded Biden and his army fight. They waited until after the Primaries and cut his head off instead of his legs and this time the Press helped swing the axe. But Biden got in one final shot - he made Kamala (and by extension many of his staff) his replacement instead of some brokered ticket negotiated in a backroom between Obama, Axlerod, the Clintons, etc. So old man Biden is out but his failed administration is still on the ballot. That's the second best outcome for Trump.

True dat - This was the most difficult decision I've ever made when voting for POTUS. I went into the voting booth with the thought of voting for CARTER, but at the last moment I just couldn't do it - and made the choice for Ford. Lots of people asked me afterwards what I had done - I may have lied to a couple of them for a week or so.
At that time, I was really disillusioned with Nixon - I had admired him the entire time I knew him. And then he LIED to be about that damned 'break-in' - and of course at that time I still adhered to what my mother had taught me all my life - "if they print it (or say it on TV) it has to be true." So I really believed all the horseshite they shoveled out on TV.
But as I matured more, and began becoming aware of the duplicity of the media, I have now done a 180 on that belief and do not trust ANYTHING that comes out of the news media, or the government on first blush. I reserve judgement until some time has passed to analyze it independently as much as I can.

Yes - everything was pretty much aligning with my prediction from almost 3 years ago - that Biden would surely not be candidate, but that someone other than Harris would head up the ticket.
I felt they would NEVER allow Harris to be the nominee - because EVERYONE knows she has ZERO natural talent.
My prediction was Michelle - and they would make that switch as LATE as possible - even thinking they would allow Biden to be the nominee but would have to get rid of him sometime late in the process because of some 'fault recently discovered'
And in that scenario there would be little time for campaigning so they would have to fall back of some sort of 'political GODDESS' - (would have to be a black female to justify skipping Harris.) So nobody on earth fit that description other than Big MIKE.
We are still open to that possibility - something yet may eventuate to required ditching Harris - and Big Mike would be the only choice.
I hope to God not.
