I can understand not wanting to face the reality of Baltimore while taking Trump on a tour, but to die in order to avoid it... that's commitment.

Public Service Update:

The governor appoints the successor. Maryland governor Larry Hogan happens to be a republican.

Fingers crossed that he can appoint a young black conservative to fill the spot and give that person a leg up on the upcoming election.

No he does not.

The governor can only appoint senators when they leave office before the term is expired.

A special election or waiting until the general election is the only way to fill the seat of a House Rep who resigns or dies in office.

Cummings seat will be vacant until someone wins an election.

Hogan is a huge cuck that hates Trump dude. He was recently entertaining pleas from Bill Kristol to primary Trump.

Didn't hear much about his demise, RIP.

Now the more important question, who takes over as Chairman of the House Oversight Committee?

My warmest condolences to the family and many friends of Congressman Elijah Cummings. I got to see first hand the strength, passion and wisdom of this highly respected political leader. His work and voice on so many fronts will be very hard, if not impossible, to replace!

I think many of them just think it sounds "cool" and "edgy" to say what they say.

Princess Pelosi of course! Just go ahead and ask her if there's anyone better equipped than herself.

It'll be a joint chairmanship. AOC and Rashida Tlaib.

Of course, you could be right. I just looked up what happened before I posted and it said this:

LINK

f a representative dies while in office who replaces him?

The governor of the state the representative is from appoints his or her replacement.

You are correct in that that Constitution states:

4: When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.

Cummings first came into office in a special election, did he not? I guess his replacement will do the same.

The world is truly a better place today without him in it!
