Trump is clearly trying to right this trade perversion. He knows that China needs us to buy their crap more than we need their cheap crap. We might want it but we don’t really need it.
That's half the equation. He is also trying to bring the manufacture of things we DO NEED back to the US. Medicines, steel, oil, computer chips, etc. Things that can be leveraged against us and affect our national security.

Oh so suddenly you don’t eat crawfish. How much Chinese shitstained food have you consumed from being cheap? Bet you buy Chicom tilapia and shrimp too.

Why you getting so sensitive ? You one of these shite bag crawfish wranglers that think your services are irreplaceable and of high value?
New flash sport, It aint that serious. Trust me. We will all survive without your over prices crawfish. You should learn to code and stop complaining about your job so much.

That’s a natural economic result.
If they implement the tarriffs correctly, they’ll apply on items that are available in the US. If they apply to items that are not, we could have some issues with shortages

There are a lot of sectors (I'm not sure if seafood is one of them but it seems to be based on recent shrimp prices) that the Chinese government will subsidize to offset shipping to further price American products out of the market. This is absolutely done with any chemicals produced in the U.S. that aren't patented they'll sell it at a loss just to weaken American market share. In recent years fisherman have been getting paid around 90 cents a pound for a 21/25 count shrimp at seafood docks. I find it extremely hard to believe the Chinese can raise a shrimp, treat with all chemicals necessary to make it grow faster, process and ship for cheaper than 90 cents.

Same w/ imported cheap basa fish. I hate when I go to Gulf coast restaurants and I see them with "fried fish" on the menu because I know right away what it is. Way too many restaurants have converted to using the imported crap over local catfish. Same w/ shrimp

Swai and Basa are literally an epidemic and it's sad these fish are up there with tilapia in the filth/contaminants dept. But we can blame this on people not wanting to pay the extra 2 dollars for wild catfish. Also the states imposing over regulation on the industry artificially drives prices up.

Not sure if that is related. We put a tariff on lumber and oil, and Canada turned around and tried to put tariffs on electricity. It's about leverage. We are going to put tariffs on the things that give us the most leverage.
I think they need to go behind closed doors and make a deal. Trying to negotiate with Trump through the media usually doesn't work well.
On the flip side, I think the beauty of negotiating with Trump is that he will probably come up with some creative ways to help both Canadian and American businesses make more money - either through collaboration or reduction in regulation. Think about the Ukrainian mineral deal. We need he rare earth materials, and they need help getting it out of the ground. A deal between the two countries gives Ukraine leverage to get their country rebuilt while simultaneously giving them the security of knowing that the US is going to protect their assets in Ukraine. Win/Win. No other President sees this the way Donald Trump does. Everyone else sees it as War or no war.

Almost certainly the relative difference in the cost of the labor to produce the crawfish.
The seasonal green card labor?

If we tarriffs products that we don’t have or have in limited supply and demand is strong then it will certainly create a substantial rise in the cost of that product.
If, however we increase tarriffs on products that we have in large quantity then it’ll be less of an impact.

I've been doing it for more than a decade now. Primarily used this site. LINK

I’d love to but the sad reality is we make almost nothing here anymore
I grocery shop every day and read the labels. 100% of my food is American and it's not like I'm trying to avoid foreign products. My Mexican hot sauce says 'Made in California.'
I did buy a bottle of Cab Sav from Peru that was cheap and excellent. But I don't think we're gonna put tariffs on Peru.

I remember when Walmart used to proudly advertise “Made in USA” in the stores.
Don’t know when they stopped, but I remember. Probably when Sam Walton died.

Yeah well whatever. But tariffs are just a tax that’s it
But you don't have to pay the tax. Your claim that 'we make almost nothing here' is false. I pay no tariff taxes. Hell, both of my cars are Japanese. They are made in the USA and carry no tariffs because of that.

Good for you. It’s still wrong and meant to drive up prices intentionally to bring in a digital dollar when our currency continues to collapse
Ah, Trump wants to ruin our economy by driving up prices. Now I see. Well, I'm voting for AOC for President in 2028 so she can save us from his evil plan.

Jackson USA...frick dem.
I have a 1987 Charvel Model 5, of the legendary Made in Japan *Jackson/Charvel "Import Series."
The build quality is unsurpassed at it's price-point (86, 87 and 88 catalog MSRP avg = $1,200), and to this very day will stand toe to toe with $4-5K USA Custom Shop builds. I also own a 2001 Jackson Soloist and a 2002-03 Jackson DKMG "Dinkenstein" I assembled myself with an '02 body and '03 neck, both originally made in Japan at the same factory the Charvel was.
Today, both are owned by Fender who is currently taking an absolute arse-whipping by Squire
They want $300-$700 for this entry-level horseshite:
*Charvel was NOT and was NEVER the cheaper label Jackson guitar a la ESP/LTD, it was the actual OG. Grover Jackson was in fact hired by Wayne Charvel, before eventually buying Wayne out in the mid-80s.

Not me Dick. I’ve got a job and not enough time to do it for money but I know what it involves for every pound of spillway tails that goes in the freezer. Don’t eat them, I dont care bitch.
