How long had it been since NYC had a Republican mayor before Giuliani in the 90's? I don't know, but I would think he was the first in a while because everyone was fed up with crime. Maybe NYC could flip again

Local elections are very different than presidential elections - after all, Massachusetts has elected Republican governors lately (Romney, Baker) but is certainly not flipping red for a Republican presidential candidate anytime soon, if ever.

Nah. 2/3rds of the state’s population lives in NYC Metropolitan Area.

There's more to gain from this than winning the state, Which I would love for him to do, but I just don't see it. He's rallying his base to get out and vote. If they think they have a chance, they'll turn out. It won't win him the state, but might turn the tide in senate or congressional seats. Not all, but if it flips one, it works. He needs all he can get. IF Biden were to win the election, bith the house and senate are going to have to be red. They'll be the only line of defense.

ETA: chess move.

Yeah, I get that and you are certainly right about national/local. Just a thought that if things keep up in NYC (i.e. not doing the lights for 9/11, looting, etc.) people in the city could vote for law and order

I have been on Long Island for the past week working storm outages. I was shocked at how many citizens are in support of Trump and the amount of Trump flags, stickers, etc. Of course this was on the Eastern half of Long Island. Several people said the BLM, Antifa, and far left movement has pushed them away from the Democrat Party. That being said it would be a miracle to get NY red.

John Lindsay from 1966-74, and he ended up becoming a Dem. Also helped run NYC into the ground.

I'd be curious to see data related to urban v rural population within a state and how that translates to voting. Cities are overwhelmingly Democratic in electoral patterns, and the denser the share of the population that is urban, the more likely they are to vote that way.

There are plenty of baws in CA, NY, IL, etc., they just get outvoted by the masses in their cities.

We need an electoral college within states to give the rural folks appropriate representation.

lol no way. Trump has turned his back on New York and is all about Florida now. New York won’t go red for Trump.

States like NY, California, Illinois, & Pennsylvania that are red outside of their largest city(ies) is why every state should be Congressional District Method to reward electoral votes and not winner take all...

No. Stop.
Not in play.
He won’t win any of the states he didn’t previously win.
This is a legit life or death struggle for this nation.

The strategy is not to necessarily win the state, but make the Dems spend time and money in NY which they have not had to in the past.

Trump says such to just make DNC invest time and “MONEY” in a blue state!

Gamesmanship!

It is probably this right here, same as the dim Texas fantasy porn. But getting the endorsement of the NYPD Union coupled with Cuomo and DeBlasio's utter incompetence probably does have some soul-searching going on w/ the New Yorkers not rich enough to pick up and move that gives this enough credence to make the DNC look at this a little harder.
