And by the way, your insurance is probably a lot less in Canada than the US,

For instance, in 2024, a typical Canadian family of four was projected to pay approximately $17,713 for public healthcare, a significant portion of their tax bill and income.

Did not know this. fricking Syrupeans...
It would likely become the same way here if we went to a "single payer" system.
What people don't understand about the Canadian system is that the providers services are taxpayer funded, but many if not most drugs aren't.
So people still have to have private insurance for pharmaceuticals. Either that or pay a buttload of cash for them (although their drugs are cheaper than ours).

Isn’t an ultrasound almost worthless with regards to diagnosing knee injuries?
Isn’t MRI the standard?
Isn’t MRI the standard?

You obviously know nothing about a country with parallel health care systems.
You want to get your knee surgery in Canada, use you private insurance, EXACTLY what you just described and you can have it. You want the social care route you wait.
What the hell are you talking about - since when does Canada have a parallel health system. Canada, North Korea and Cuba all ban private healthcare for anything deemed "medically necessary" under the respective provincial plan. Canada is not Europe.
You have no clue, yet manage to be arrogant about it. It is ignorance like this that makes discussions of health care with the average person a complete waste of time.

Now I ask you, if you walk into a hospital in the US, tell them you have got a bum knee, have nothing but medicare and see if you get that knee fixed in a week.
Yes, actually, you would.
There are no deficiencies in Medicare for common orthopedic services that I am aware of. IME you'd get your knee procedure just like you would if you had BC/BS or something else.
Do you mean Medicaid?

Yes.

Socialized medicine, is designed (they say) to give equal health care to everyone. But in reality, it denies health care to the poor and the rich just come to America to get the health care they need.
It's less than 100 miles from Toronto to Buffalo.

Unlike the US where the system is incentivized to hope you die after paying your premiums.
Why would their government make paying cash for services illegal?

A friend is heading to Costa Rica for medical procedures on his back/shoulder and getting the teeth implants as well. He has planned to spend 4-6 weeks there. I will await the results. Hope it goes well for him.

Free healthcare is seldom worth the price paid. Your taxes are being taken every economic transaction you make and you still have to wait an excessively long time that frankly medical malpractice!
You’re NOT getting what you pay for.
Best option, go elbows down, call around the U.S. for price quotes and take a medical “vacation” in the land of the free.
Just saying.

Preventing a black market for medical services.
They’d dodge the govt system and pay cash with no tax going to the province or Canada.

The Canadian system is run by bean-counters who find that waiting lists are cheaper than being adequately equipped.
It's not just a lack of equipment either; it is a lack of doctors and nurses. I can remember many doctors retiring early and not enough new doctors were coming out of school because it wasn't worth the effort of having to deal with the government to get paid. Endless paperwork. Much more lucrative to become a lawyer.

My aunt lives in the UK and has always had access to excellent healthcare. From primary care to surgery, she said she never had better service. Even claims the medicine is better than what is available back in the States.

Based on the info in the OP, sounds like you may. I had a minor knee injury, called an ortho for an appointment. After x-rays than an eval, scheduled MRI for the following week. Given the option of therapy, injection, or knee scope. I elected therapy first, tried that for 3 weeks and the pain was worse than before starting therapy. 10 days later I was on the operating table.
1 Dr
2 tests (because insurance requires x-ray before considering MRI)
And had I not elected the non-surgical approach first, would have had it done within approximately 3 weeks.

The only good things to come out of Canada are Canadian Club and RUSH.

It is the backbone of their system.
Again - Canada, North Korea and Cuba are the three countries with that system.
I did my time under it and you could not pay me enough to do that again. Multi year waits for surgery, waking up in closets of hospitals because beds are full - people truly do not understand how bad it can get.

Worked with a nurse from Canada, her mother had a form of COPD called bronchiectasis, which causes an increase in mucus. I gave her mother a device called a “flutter valve” which helps patients cough up secretions. She couldn’t get one because Canada’s health care doesn’t provide it. It’s a plastic device that probably cost about seventy dollars retail.
Her mother was so happy to have it, used it everyday….
