genuinely curious as to where that is stated?

That love can only be consummated after repentance?

The whole New Testament. Jesus preached, "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near!" That was His first message.

But lots of distinctions need to be made in this discussion.

One would be a distinction between God's love for humans and the appropriate expression of humans love for each other. It sounds like you are referring only to the latter while the poster to whom you are replying is referring to the former. That alone IMO is causing equivocation problems.

Some of the edicts that Jesus (and Paul) gives His followers about how to relate to one another are taken to apply to anyone when in fact, they only apply to fellow believers.

And people who say "Jesus said for everyone to love each other," somehow ignore that He also said He came not to bring peace, but to bring a sword, to turn fathers against sons and mothers against daughters, etc. Which obviously means that "You do you" was not part of the equation.

I don't know what your angle is on this topic yet at this point in the thread, but if you're trying to make the argument that because Jesus told people to love one another, that means that we should accept illegal immigrants or LBGTQ degeneracy or some other such thing, we can have that discussion...but you need to define it, flesh it out to the point than people can see what your whole argument is.

There’s nothing to be forgiven for anyways. If I do something I feel is wrong, I go apologize for it. That’s pretty much it.

Not to side track, but this is just wrong.

Jesus’ core message is about the Kingdom of God coming. John’s core message was about repentance. They both carried out their message/ purpose, but Jesus wanted to communicate the world has now changed for the purpose of forgiveness being granted to all humanity.

New covenant- Jeremiah 31 if you are open to it.

Again, the central message of Jesus

There’s no “central message of Jesus.” Is his commandment to love more important than the commandment to not commit adultery?

Restricting his message to some bumper sticker cliche so you can jump in with cultural fads or try to win an argument is exactly the kind of junior high theology I’m trying to miss.

I consider myself a devout Christian. I'm also a father. Over the years of raising kids I've had to make decisions regarding my children that seemed harse to them - even mean.

Like their choices in who they dated. I didn't pull any punches - I either approved who they dated or not. The cleancut polite young men from stable families I approved. The grungy looking ones - nope. And I made it clear - don't show up here with a grungy pot-head looking one.

Years later my oldest came to me and said,"Daddy, now I know why you were the way you were".

What changed her opinion? As part of her curriculum towards getting an R/N degree she had to put in a semester in an inner city clinic. She was appalled at the number of young people infected with sexually transmitted diseases..........of the mouth.

Apparently our pal Bill Clinton convinced millions of young people that oral sex really wasn't sex. So they engaged in risky sexual behavior.

Truth always comes out. Apparently Bill Clinton is an altar boy compared to Lyndon Johnson.

Elections have consequences. Stolen elections have catastrophic consequences.

Can you rephrase this? I’m genuinely curious, but trying to figure out what your saying.

(most important of all the commandments) is no longer associated with the people that want to bring forth Jesus’ message, but rather associate love with progressives

The most important commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.

No one confuses the most important commandment with progressives.

Love your neighbor as yourself is the second most important commandment.

Yeah, "repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."

One of these things is a preparation for the other. It's His core message.

The kind of love the world wants is moralistic deism. They give lip service to what Christ was about, but do not want anything to do with who Christ is.

He’s lost already. He already switched from “love” to “the kingdom of God” and it’s just page two.

Stick around and watch it all unravel.

the western evangelical Christian message of open the door for me so I can save you from what I’ll do you if you don’t, is honestly bizarre.

It may be bizarre, but it's also a complete fabrication and strawman on your part.

It's the kind of strawman that people use to avoid confronting the real message.

I know, because I used to be one of those people and use those sorts of strawmen.

quote:

I don’t want any part of it.

No one will force you to, and that's the crux of the strawman. That's the point. God will not force you to commune with Him for eternity. That's a choice you get to make all on your own.

And the consequences will likewise be no one's fault but yours.

First, great response.

Genuinely curious as to how we got to this point where when anytime we see a message like this, it comes from progressives?

And for that, when it is seen, Christians with a conservative leaning reject it.

It’s a great message, but because it comes from the left, we are supposed to reject it?

My point is I’m asking if anyone else has trouble seeing the response from Christian conservatives when this message is rejected completely.

If I see a guy holding up a sign that says “The kingdom of Heaven is near,” while he’s shooting up heroin, what is my response?

My response is “that guy has no idea what the kingdom of Heaven even is.”

Now say something vapid.

IMO. The two most powerful things a Christian can possess are

1) Love
2) Humility

CS Lewis states it perfectly;

"To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable in others, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you."

I try to live this every day, though I fail miserably because I am a very poor Christian.

The single most destructive thing a Christian can have is;

1)Pride. In anything including your own faith. Especially in your own faith.

Pride is the seed from which all other sin grows.

Saying that the core of Christ's message is repentance is awfully Old Testament of you. You should repent for your sin, that is not in question. But are you looking for outward displays are attitudinal ? Outward displays tend to be virtue signaling

Conservatives have too many useful idiots for the left to manipulate with fake narratives. It has been highlighted with the fake moral outrage over the Trump tweet this past week and by allowing themselves to be manipulated with phony language like this from the political left. Anyone with a modicum of common sense can see this is a farcical message from the left being used to manipulate useful idiots on the right to soften and waver politically.

They know the Christian right will be receptive to this sentiment, so they use it to manipulate them into thinking the problem is US not being sympathetic enough to the poor left wing Marxists and the tens of millions of foreigners they purposefully flooded our country with in order to fundamentally change our society without our consent.

I am so sick of hearing this BS. We don't need to be more contemplative and passive. This is illogical and irrational. Stop being a useful idiot for people who couldn't make it more clear and obvious that they don't give a shite about you, good faith discourse, or American political tradition. They want to destroy America as we know it and they are loaded to the gills with racial and religious hatred and a burning desire for retribution and revenge on those they blame. These people are looking for the weak points on our side to exploit and sadly we are ate up with them.
