You’ve suggested a few times in this thread that there’s something endemic about education that makes it inefficient. I take that to mean something above and beyond the normal government inefficiency. What is it?

You and most will receive far more in voucher money than anything you pay through the property tax portion dedicated to the schools.
And how is that any different than that same money going to a public school for my child?

That's exactly what this means. Comon TD. Quit down voting here. This is exactly what it is. Instead of fixing the public state schools, they do this.
This is about as left of a handout policy as I've ever seen and can't believe it's originating from "conservatives". Why would you agree to do this with taxpayer money? Where does 7500 per family come from?

Fantastic.
I'd guess privates will suddenly get more expensive. But at the very least, school choice among the publics will be helpful.

Or has this board gone from conservative to populist to leftist?
Maybe they just don't like the idea of state tax dollars dolled out like this like it's food stamps?

IF they fund it, they control it. Sucks for the homeschoolers in the state.

Anyone have any better ideas? The public school system is not effective in "marginalized" areas.

You realize that $7500 is already allocated to be spent for every child to receive an education, right? Currently, all of that money goes to public schools and you aren’t given a penny of that money if your child attends private schools.
With vouchers, the $7500 tax dollars allocated for educating your child can go to a public school or can be used to subsidize private tuition. It’s the same money; you’re just given more freedom as to where it’s spent.
As for those freaking out about private schools accepting public school students, those students still have to meet acceptance requirements and abide by the same requirements as all other students. It’s still a private school with its own standards. And those schools only have so many open spots available for additional students.

This is harnessing the power of competition to fix the schools.
All the other methods have been tried and failed because the teacher's unions stop them at every turn. This method bypasses the union obstacle.
You're welcome.

We shall see. I don't have high hopes when blood money is used. I'd rather see a 7500 reimbursement at tax time or something

Iowa did something similar a few months ago.

Yep.
Nothing to lose at this point. Everything else we tried the past 40 years has failed.

I can see Catholic schools coming under the gun with a bunch of BS discrimination accusations. The Left will find every person that wasnt accepted for some of the normal criteria (not living in the Parish) and make it about race or gender.

That's a big reason why schools are failing now.
They aren't teaching strategies for success.
They are teaching kids how to complain about their lot in life not being fair.

"frick housing vouchers, they're just more government handouts that screw up decent neighborhoods. What? School vouchers? Yes sir, sign me up!!!"
As a lifelong giver and non-taker, I’ll gladly take the money already allocated for my kids, and apply it elsewhere for their education. My only public option is substandard, therefore I have to sacrifice dearly to send my kids 40 miles away to private school.

Well now private schools will become even more expensive just like college did when the government got involved in student loans.

You will then be given access, through other persons' tax contributions, to a product, private education, that you haven't earned or been willing to pay for previously.
And how is that any different than that same money going to a public school for my child?
Additionally, there is no way they will actually remove that $7500 per student from each school left behind by a student. The budget doesn't actually work like that.
