The fact that the Danes are even agreeing to a sit down means they are willing to entertain offers. If they were adamant they wouldn’t even take the meeting.
Whether they sell it or not, Greenland will have US early warning facilities and naval bases in the future.

There are several reasons. The most important is for Space Operations. Greenland sits on the North Pole and that area is very important for space communications (look up why). Then of course there is the National Defense issue to keep and eye on other powers and keeping pace. Finally, there are minerals that would take a ton of investment mainly because of all the ice and weather conditions.

I'm not an American world conquest guy at all but I get wanting to control Greenland for national security purposes. Because Trump always starts with something wild/outrageous I have to assume he's just wanting a security agreement / minerals deal with the Danes.

We aren't going to get Greenland as a territory. I do expect at some point over the next two or three years though for the Danes to agree to some defense access agreement and opening SOME of the mineral markets to US investment.
This is precisely what I expect as well. It's negotiation 101 - Trump starts at an extreme such as not ruling out military force to take it and they settle on the sensible option of creating a massive defense agreement that gives us tons of rights to the country.

If Denmark agrees to a lawful transfer, I guess good for them. I’m not sure what it will accomplish for either country that can’t be achieved now…

We absolutely will get Greenland as a territory. Trump has been saying for damn near a year that we need it for national security. Do you think he will back down?
Absolutely. There's an entire meme regarding this, lol.

or the Danish military will stop us from taking it?
It won't get that far.

This whole thing Greenland is like someone walking by with a big strawberry cake. I really had not thought anything at all about wanting strawberry cake. Didn't know I wanted strawberry cake.
But now that its been brought to my attention, I really really want it.

Greenland is a financial burden for Danes. U.S. can afford it.

That is a great analogy.
In the end, there are winners and losers. There are serious countries and weak countries. You are the hero for a while, and then you're the enemy for a while. On and on the cycle goes.

The Danes asked for the meeting.

I don't understand what we want from Greenland beyond what we already have. The Danes haven't and aren't prevented us from using it for military/radar/electronic/satellite monitoring installations.

Where we can base our non-existent icebreaker fleet?

See the future is really uncertain. So if a location is suitable for future development and installations it will be used as such.
Oh and don’t forget the natural resources that are basically untapped.

Just want it. There is all kinds of cool stuff we could do up there.
Plus its a good hedge for if the pole shift stuff ever happens. I'd like to buy some acres cheap once we get it. Maybe on the bays and inlets around Qaqortoq. Who knows?
Posted on 1/8/26 at 12:14 pm to wareaglepete
That is what I was thinking. I want a few acres
