It really depends on what part of the house I'm in.

I have a small apartment in Manhattan :(

Got to be prepared for the day that UN blue helmets come to take our guns. They'll come to NY first because of logistics.

Nail gun, 20 5" nail clip
Freeze ray
Squirt gun filled with acid

All so that I can make pithy quips while using them.

For home defense? AR15, Mini14, Mossberg 500 or Remington 870. I have Mini14's and a Mossberg 500 Special Purpose Road Blocker for inside the home, and my wife, kids and I are all proficient with every one of them.

For personal self defense I carry exclusively SIG, because of their unmatched reliability. Wife and I are both CC permit holders. She carries a SIG P220 9mm. I carry the SIG TacOps 1911 in .45 as my primary and a P238 on the leg as my secondary.

As for recommendation? Find something you're comfortable with. I carry .45 as my primary because I can handle the recoil and I love the stopping power. If that's too much for you, step down to .40s&w or something in 9mm. Remember, with pistols, in general the larger the frame = the less recoil. But any caliber- even .22 or .25- is better in a life or death self defense situation, than being unarmed. So, again, find what you're comfortable with and get to the range with it.

Glock 27, .40 caliber.

I'll be purchasing an AR-15 in about a month.

My CC’s are a Glock 27 Gen 4 and a USPK .40 Subcompact

In my house I have a Sig Sauer MPX SBR with an EoTech....you would have to be a fully trained SWAT Team to over take my house.

A variety would be the best option. If I’m at home by myself I’d prefer a shotgun, shorter barrel the better. If my wife and kids are home I’d keep a handgun at bedside, I prefer the 10mm, with a carbine length semi auto rifle in the safe I can fight my way to...just in case, but I’m actually more proficient in close quarters with my handgun.
