Good response, but why do we have troops in Syria???
Agreed, and why do we have over 900 military bases around the world? Insanity.

So was ISIS defeated? yes. Was ISIS disarmed and disbanded? no.
People are getting sick and tired of funding a machine that can annihilate an enemy. Why should we fund that much power if unable to use it?
Oh, I forgot. We are in the business of selling weapons.

What took so long to respond? The assessment of potential colateral damage. This new " friendly " Syrian Government has to be mollycoddled, particularly with the Iranian presence in and around Damascus.

They were driven out of every country they were in, including Syria. The rest that weren’t killed went back into hiding or to regular jobs. I happen to have intimate knowledge of this.
No, they werent. The Iraqis still dont control Mosul.
My last assignment (2021) was in Erbil and I spent a ton of time in Syria. Most of that time was watching ISIS encampments and tracking their movement.
There is a reason there is a permanent rotation of an infantry brigade in Erbil, and an Air Force contingent.

Bombing insignificant countries and killing brown people. Right out of the Obama playbook.

A part of me hates the fact that I wholeheartedly agree with literally everything you said.
I was born in the late 70s and the whole middle east has been an absolutely volatile shite show for my whole life and the previous 3,000 years before my conception.

I just heard they hit 50 targets very successfully

This can’t be true.
In 2018, on today’s date, President Donald Trump declared complete victory over ISIS in Syria and ordered the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Syria.
4 years of Biden allowed them to move back in.

You have an interesting take on this. Can you tell how much success we have as conventional military to reduce ISIS versus how much clandestine support they (funders of ISIS) get? I assume you don't want to get outted of your position, but can you shed some light the function of our disfunctional military/political enterprise that allows this conundrum to be seemingly endless? And most importantly, what solution would you see to eliminate the need for the post you had taken (assuming you're not active at this time)?

Good. I don't think we should have any American soldiers over there, but any that are injured/killed should be avenged. Unleash the fires of hell on those fricking savages. Damn the collateral damage. The world would be better off if the entire place was turned into a radioactive wasteland.
This is someone who does not learn from past mistakes.

Are the air strikes a surprise?
President Donald Trump vowed
"very serious retaliation" for the ambush attack in Syria that killed two U.S. service members and a civilian interpreter on December 13, 2025. The U.S. has since carried out substantial airstrikes against ISIS targets in the region.
When it comes to retribution, President Trump does what he says he will do.
