Social media is the root of all modern evil. There is literally nothing redeeming about it.

People survived for thousands of years walking next door and talking to their neighbors instead of posting every move and thought that comes to their head online.

Great take

Maybe I'm jealous. I'm not sure.

You're only jealous if you're also trying to get instagram followers up and call someone out for their #s

Once I was playing a game with friends and order is determined by # of instagram followers and I don't even post on it and I was #1 somehow and a few friends were upset b/c they apparently really try to build that following.

That story is all about political influencers, not applicable to the example in OP.

*ETA: if you read that story you'd see it was largely a failure and more of a DEM party-centered op than a general/political one. It was more about controlled access to DEM pols than anything else, which restricted who else the content creators could interview, which caused it to fail by and large.

Virtually none of this is organic. These women pick up the latest topic du jour (BLM, ICE, Ukraine, etc) and just virtue signal about it because they don't want to feel left out and/or are pressured into it by others. It's like the "in this house we believe" yard signs almost nobody really believes in it once one neighbor does it they do it also so they can't be seen as not supporting the new 'thing'.

Where's the line there?

I have little doubt, my lady considers herself one at this point.

This is the perfect example of what hugely popular “influencer” Jen Hatmaker is doing. She went from a preachers wife Christian speaker in Austin prior to Covid to her husband leaving her & her going completely WOKE after her divorce, George Floyd, & BLM. Her instagram is nothing but WOKE crap left & right, selling crap, & her new Black “alleged” boyfriend. White women are all about her & it’s frightening how much influence she has & how many White women she has turned into militant activists for the leftist cause.

Her new book she wrote & touring the country promoting is called, you guessed it, Awake”. It details her divorce & her far left woke “Awakening”. Women actually listen to this woman. It’s frightening.

I mean a political organization working with political influencers isn't some shocking thing. Although that particular op largely failed, mind you.

OP seems to be talking about a different type of content creator

So this woman has a huge following for her interior design content. Insert whatever content a woman is interested in.

These heavy influencers have all of a sudden turned their pages into anti-ICE pages

The left-political CCs have always been anti-ICE and the mask of the actual content (interior design in this instance)

Jen Hatmaker and Rachel Hollis are the most dangerous because they are very popular in the "Christian" woman social media world.

If you read how Rachel Hollis got popular, the only thing that makes sense is she has been bought and paid for by the progressive left.

She posted a bikini pic after having a baby and showed stretch marks. Her post was proud to be a mom or something along those lines. She got 10 million likes on IG.

A year later, she wrote Girl, Wash your Face, which is basically an introduction to feminism with bible verses taken out of context.

And just like Jen Hatmaker. First the book, then the divorce. You don't need a man.

And, as is the case often... In an abode much nicer than I'll ever have again.

Funny, with all that money, you think Erin Conway could get a square picture frame for the wall.

i agree with this. i do think there are probabyl some revenue streams from dubious sources out there that pay some influencers to push certain narratives, but i think the vast, vast majority of this stuff on these mid to lower level "influencer" accounts (in the hundreds of thousands of followers) is just women being women and trying to outdo each other with how good they are.

it's the same phenomenon that results in all the wives in my kid's class competing to give the best gifts to teachers and busdrivers and janitors and shite. none of them really care about showing appreciation. all of them care about looking like they show more appreciation than someone else.

So is social media. Should have to take an aptitude and personality test to qualify.

Not a bad idea. I guess any of us are free to create our own social media app and gatekeep it however we see fit

Seems like an excellent way to lose followers.

What really blows my mind is how much revenue people are willing to give up just to post their political opinions online. You see it everywhere from influencers selling boutique products to massive brands like Coca-Cola pushing Sprite. I don’t get sacrificing that kind of money just to make a point.

I’m in sales, and I’ve always handled it the same way: I never bring up politics unless a customer does first and even then, if they lean differently than I do, I don’t engage. There’s nothing to gain and a lot to lose.

At the end of the day, business is about relationships and trust. The moment you mix in politics, you automatically cut your potential customer base in half. That’s just bad business.

I just find it hilarious that here we have three pages of conservative white dudes bitching about content on Instagram they are claiming liberal white women consume. Meanwhile I only check insta like once a week to see the memes my friends DM me.
