How Do Red Blooded Americans Still Watch NASCAR
Haven't watched Nascar since Dale died. Not once.
I'd watch curling before I watched racing on TV any more. Dirt track, in person, that's where it's at.

Imagine caring about NASCAR.

I watched NASCAR when Buddy Baker and Bobby/Davey Allison were rubbing doors …. that was racing…I couldn’t tell you what’s going on with NASCAR now.
Spinning into the infield, Bobby winning the race and saying fck it and flying into the infield to take up for his little brother, with fists a flying, on one of the first nationally televised races.
Nascar going apeshite thinking they had lost their big chance....until the ratings started coming in and Nascar became a behemoth.

They're not going to be bringing in new fans from the anti-Let's Go Brandon group. Why piss off your fan base and push people away? This is a lose lose and they're stupid for trying it.
I don’t know, but you are probably wrong. They have probably done market studies, and they know what they are doing. It’s somewhat rare that a company loses ground, in the medium term, this way. Foxnews blew it, for sure.

I liked Nascar back in the day. I lost interest after the 'new' cars basically.

Big Daddy France is rolling in his grave watching the shite show they have now.

I have no clue how NASCAR ever became popular in the first place. Crashes? Demolition Derby does it better. Speed? Drag racing is easier to follow.
You actually need high tech digital GPS to follow the leader. What racing sport has ever encouraged participants to get out of line then randomly jump back in? Imagine the chaos if the Olympics allowed runners in the 10,000 meter race to have multiple gatorade pit-stops. Think of how anti-climatic the Tour de France would be if the "leader" could cross the finish line behind 20 other cyclists, who he technically lapped.

Sounds like you still do. I didn’t know any of this because I don’t watch

My brother and I used to go to a couple races per year. It was fun, tailgating, drinking, falling asleep during 4 hours of dull racing between start and final laps, endless hours waiting for track to dry after a sprinkle…
Haven’t been since 2004, haven’t had a desire. I know tickets were $100 back then.
Talladega calls me every year trying to get our scouts to camp there. It’s a great deal, you get to camp, 2 days of tickets, meet a driver, and infield access with the chance to hold the flag. It’s $10 for scouts and $50 for adults. If that doesn’t scream no demand, nothing does.

Next move is to let LeBron James be their spokesman! Or maybe Colin Kapperdick!

Like the guy said, what they gonna do? stop the race and kick out 10,000 fans for chanting? I'd chant louder if I were a fan and heard this news.

Their viewership and attendance is in the crapper.
I’m surprised they even let Kyle Larson drive this year and he is walking away with the title.

Do they even have a major sponsor anymore? Noticed they called it the NASCAR championship without a sponsor's name.

How exactly does that work?
Posted on 11/7/21 at 8:54 am to Lsudx256
Because people are weak, fat lazy and convictionless. All of that bluster about turning off the NFL and few actually stayed the course.

NASCAR became popular because the cars appeared stock (like something you could actually purchase and drive), the cars looked cool, the tracks had variety, most of the tracks were located where the sport was most popular, and the drivers had personality. People watched to follow their hometown driver, attended their hometown track, watched the cool cars, or watched for the rivalries between the cool drivers. This was long before Twitter, and these drivers used to have beef. They would fight each other after races, intentionally wreck one-another, shite talk in interviews, etc. It was like WWE.
After Dale Earnhardt died near the peak of NASCAR’s popularity, NASCAR responded to it in all of the worst ways possible. Chasing safety, they created the “Car of Tomorrow” which made all of the cars virtually identical. They were safer, but also didn’t look stock or very cool. Then, in order to expand their footprint, built more and more tracks in places without strong followings, taking races away from the carolinas where NASCAR was most popular. This alienated generational fans while failing to attract enough new fans to fill these stadiums. Also, the new stadiums were all pretty unifom, making every race virtually identical. Finally, to appeal to sponsors and tv networks, they enforced codes of conduct on drivers. No more shite talking or fighting, and no more personality. The drivers were all basically identical.
So, identical cars driven by identical drivers on identical tracks wasn’t interesting to anyone but hardcore fans. So, predictably, NASCAR’s popularity plateaud and then started to gradually decline.
Finally, NASCAR started committing suicide on social issues and their hardcore fans abandoned them completely. They’ve probably lost 70% or more of their fans since the peak in the early to mid 2000’s.
