Why should anyone be?

So, the typical poor southerner that was drafted into the war and killed while having nothing to do with slavery can't have respect or a monument to his sacrifice?

No, they don’t. They’re dead. Next brain buster.

Your brain does seem busted. Are you saying we shouldn't honor anyone who is dead?

I’m not saying anyone should or shouldn’t be. I’m just trying to contextualize the argument outside of the American Civil War. Celebrating your run of the mill confederate soldier is akin to celebrating your run of the mill German or Japanes WWII soldier.

Just curious as to whether people feel the same way when the context is shifted outside of the American south.

Frankly, I don't see much of a distinction, but I can't speak for others.

I love how this is presented as some great insight

As with everything it's about perspective and context. Washington isn't a traitor to us, he was a traitor of the British. The confederates were traitors to us

How do you think the slaves would define tyranny?

There’s no question that slavery was evil and “tyranny” probably isn’t a strong enough word to define it.
But the war was started to keep the union together. It was not started to abolish slavery. If the Confederacy had voted down secession, what would have happened to slavery? Unfortunately in the short term nothing.
Lincoln, like any smart leader, seized the moment and used the war as a tool to end slavery for political reasons.

I’ll give you everything you’ve ever desire or deem important, but I get to bang your wife and daughters anytime I want. Is that cool with you? Do those things you want that I can give you still matter?

The logic of the Pentagon is dumb. The Confederates were not fighting to overthrow the Union or replace the constitution. They were fighting for independence and self determination.

Just because the primary driver of their desire for independence was flawed, does not invalidate the legality of their secession.

The South wanted an amicable split. Lincoln started the war.

I don't really smoke pot anymore, and it's a work day for me, so no drinking yet. However, it sure does seem like you're having good day so far.

You should really dig deeper into what caused the south to succeed, youd then realize that its isnt as simple as the current narrative explains it as.

Rotten nonsense. GW was disloyal to George III, as was everyone else who participated in the American Revolution; R.E. Lee et. al. were traitorously disloyal to the US. That makes all the difference.

Wouldn't George III consider the New World as being traitors to his throne?

The South was preserving the spirit of 1776.
