If the other choices are only Atlanta and Texas, then i would have fricking stayed.

I moved to Silicon Valley after LSU.

I left Louisiana in the 90’s and it was a shithole at that time. I lived in Texas and Georgia since leaving and both states are decades ahead in terms of economic policy and development.

There are simply too many folks in Louisiana that, in one form or another, like the status quo. You get the government and policies that you vote in and clearly the folks that voted for JBE favor the status quo.

I think while a lot of people voted for Rispone because they believed in him, as many or more voted against JBE.
They just voted republican.

Yep, there is a God, and he does look out after you, if you remain faithful. I left Louisiana in 1987 and I dreaded leaving. After all it's the home of my ancestors. But sometimes we don't realize a gift when it's handed to us. Now I realize leaving that sad state we call Louisiana is the best thing that happened to me and my family. Never thought I would EVER say that.

Bottom line when you're able...move to Texas! We need you gainfully employed Louisiana folks.

Definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.

As you were.

Has Louisiana ever fixed the I-10 / Washington exit? Serious question.

What’s weird is that me and my LSU friends have all prospered in Louisiana. What’s wrong with you people ? You’re probably not far from having the government take care if you too. Runners and quitters.

So you say you've prospered? Good for you. So that tells me you're either a graduate of LSU Law School or you're in government. One or the other...or both. (just joking).

By the way, can you answer this for me? Are there any automobile assembly plants in Louisiana? Seriously, are there any? Is there an appliance assembly plant located somewhere in Louisiana? Is there a plant located in Louisiana that assembles anything?

.....I'm waiting?

.....and your assertion that I'm a quitter is false. I had a job.....my company consolidated my function in another state and I was offered a position. I left Louisiana and I'm happy today because of my decision.

But like they say.....if you can't argue with the facts......attack the messenger.

As you were.

Exactly. The only people I know that have “prospered” in Louisiana after graduating from LSU are lawyers, doctors, accountants, etc. (essentially jobs that they can do from anywhere but chose to stay)

Other than that, there’s the few engineering grads working for Dow/Exxon.

Other than that, young graduates have 0 options unless they want to max out at 35-40k a year

I've made a good living here. Not a plant worker, government worker or lawyer.

And a disappointing number of people become part of the problem rather than attempt to be a part of the solution.

This state has issues but that isn't true. I work in IT and I made more than 40k 2 years out of LSU almost 20 years ago

And how much would you have made in Houston, Dallas, Austin, Atlanta, etc. working in IT?

And paid less taxes. And didn’t have to pay to send your kids to school. And had a lot less crime in your immediate area.

And if those aren’t your speed, the same pay in a place like Chatanooga, Charlotte, Nashville, Raleigh, etc would have all the above perks as well.

To live in a place with shitty government, shitty schools, high crime, high taxes, bad roads and traffic, you’d think it would take extra high salaries and opportunities to compensate.

I make about 15% less than I would in Austin or Dallas. I know because I've had offers to relocate there. My costs are lower here though all things considered.

Paying for school is a choice that people make because they want to live in the city. Most people that move to Texas live in the burbs. You can move to the suburbs in BR, Nola, Lafayette or Shreveport and put your kids in public school too.

I hate that you are making me defend this place because you and I probably agree on a lot

This state has a myriad of issues and lack of high quality white collar jobs might be the biggest.

Oddly enough, Chattanooga and Nashville have a higher violent crime rate than every Louisiana city not named New Orleans

There is a big difference between prosperous in Louisiana and prosperous in a competent state. Congrats on making $100k/year in Louisiana while paying taxes out of your arse. You probably can make $200k/year in Texas, live around decent people, and not fund the Welfare Republic of Louisiana.
