In my opinion, it’s not about how many hours you clock, but how efficient you are with those hours. Can some people produce for 80 hours every week? Sure. Can most be effective after a certain threshold? No. After some number of hours, it becomes counterintuitive if the goal is efficiency.

Spot on. My company measures our productivity and can even break it down to how many hours of work it should take to do the tasks. This year I’ve averaged 13 hours worth of output per day but I only spend about 8-9 real time hours per day working. And I do it from home, frick the OP.

“In MY day, we worked 100 hours a week, and we LIKED it that way! They made us wear Pampers so we didn’t have to stop to use the lavatory. Only allowed us to change ‘em during our 10 minute lunch break! Most of us didn’t even need to ‘cause eating’s for pansies! Ohhhh, how we loved it!”

I went to college and graduate school specifically so that I never have to do this.

Terrible idea to mandate it and require it. It will quickly lead to burnout and high turnover. People will be more apt to do this on their own once they see what they’re doing is successful. I used to regularly work 86-90 weeks and it’s not sustainable.

At 57 I have 3 jobs and work at least 60 hours per week. I have worked 80 hours a week when I was younger. I can understand why people with kids might not want to work so many hours.

18, pro and 257, against...

I would bet the wealth of the 18 pro-voters outweighs the negators by a power of 100.

Why have wealth if you die 10-15 years younger than the other 100. Or hell not even have time to enjoy it.

frick that and the Puritan work ethic. There is more to life than wasting away your life at the office.

Project work as well.

WFH. I'm salaried, so there's no set hours to work. I work about 25 hours a week, give or take. I do all the stuff that lots of old people like the OP cry about during "work hours" though again, I'm salaried, I don't really have work hours.

My work gets done, nothing is ever late, my KPIs are always at or near the top... What's the issue?
