A bunch of well armed Mexican gangsters are a force to be reckoned with======by unarmed Mexican civilians, corrupt politicians, police and military personnel.
However, the U.S. military will push their shite in with ease, and it wouldn't be pretty.

This is why you designate them as terror orgs but you don't go kinetic south of the border in a preemptive fashion. Let them make threats. You can then start a lot of wheels turning just based on threats. If they then take action, you have justification, you get 100% support from the American People, and you can level everything tied to the cartels.

Honestly, I don't know if I believe this. The leaders of the large cartels aren't stupid people and shooting down American planes is an insanely stupid idea.

Yeah, that would be suicide. If you are making decisions for a cartel and you want to guarantee that every member of your family will be assuming room temperature in the very near future, shoot down a U.S. aircraft.
