I know you didn't mean it that way, but it's what you typed. Maybe sit this one out.
Yeah, the one person in this thread who is actively serving in the Navy and who has deployed with females on submarines should sit this one out. Since you know what I meant, maybe you should ignore the semantics and actually engage my argument.

In the last 10 years, how many officers have been relieved after being caught banging members of the crew? How many are doing it but haven’t been caught? How many women have been impregnated during deployments?
It ain’t your father’s navy. Mark my words, it’s going to cost us dearly.

No, they made those changes so that women could have their own berthing and bathrooms.
Wrong. That’s ONE of the reasons they made changes.

I served on the Los Angeles class, SSN qualified.
Of course that was over 40 years ago, but memory says every inch of space was used, privacy was what you made it.
Hard to imagine how they were able to redesign for added privacy. The Virginia class is a little longer and wider, but also has a larger payload.

Which is a waste of money when you get around to it. Submarines don't offer a lot of head room and I've hit my head on plenty of overhead valves - have the scars to prove it - and I'm only 5'9".

Your memory is very good. I just got off of a Los Angeles class back in July and they are still lacking in the privacy department. Shaft Alley remains the only place where you can be alone for more than five minutes.

This is a dubious claim.

You do understand that the next major war is going to be the most distant and impersonal one in history, do you not? Naval engagements will be fought from hundreds of miles away between cruisers and destroyers that are attempting to shoot long range missiles at themselves and the aircraft carriers.
Our Navy and Air Force have not fought anything since Vietnam. No contested air space, no naval engagements.
This long distance warfare is still going to hurl munitions into vehicles, vessels, and airframes and it's going to be people that must react to do damage control, put out fires, navigate, and fight under degraded conditions.
And, when the satellites go down, there won't be any people typing commands at a computer. We could very easily be reduced to WWII type conditions. The idea that future warfare is going to be more like a video game is fantasy. The networks are going down and if we face a peer competitor, the network will probably be the first thing to go down.

first gender-neutral submarine
My initial thought was that the Navy was going to refer to the sub as a they/them.

Which submarine was it and when? I'm curious.

It's a personal anecdote. I know those don't add up to a hill of beans but it's what I've personally seen.

This is all speculation. While I have no doubt of this happening if we do get into a shooting war with China or Russia, I don't rate the Russian surface navy very highly and the Chinese are still trying to figure their doctrine out.

A phallic shaped boat full of seamen is gender neutral. Interesting

O/U number who become pregnant during first deployment.

This will not end well for them. It is pretty much routine for multiple women who are on long Naval cruises to end up pregnant.

On a 10 month deployment on a sub a woman could conceivably get pregnant and give birth without ever surfacing.
