I assume this would include the ATF’s ability to arbitrarily say what’s legal and what’s not ?

If Roberts concern for the legacy of his court is the political/cultural neutrality of SCOTUS. Then this case may be one he could feel safe being more aggressive in reigning in the out-of-control bureaucracy.

This case could have a huge impact with very little social unrest.
At least nothing like the other cases earlier with more passionate issues.

On the other hand, it could cause great distress in DC. And maybe Roberts would not want to dampen his dinner party plans...

Now think of the regulations that have been pushed down by the EPA, the CDC, the Department of Energy, the Department of Education, etc. over the years. This case is really the biggest of the term, even if its not getting the attention due to Dobbs.

I hope Dobbs sucked all the oxygen out of the room and they rule in favor of WV without anyone noticing. Then all of congress has a collective "oh shite moment".

It closes the veritable Pandora's Box of federal government overreach.

Paired with explicit ruling from the Court about abortion being a state issue with it not being specifically enumerated in the Constitution, underscoring the larger point?

Trump still doing work even after they cheated him out!!!

some people voted for Trump over Hilary for the sole reason of implementing several new justices on the SC

seems like that is paying off HUGE dividends, even if he's not currently in office

Would this end mask mandates as well?

I never could grasp the power the agencies claimed to have.

Like OSHA regulations.

Can you imagine the results of these cases if Hillary would have seated 3 justices? The thought is frightening.

I had no idea it was that big - the FedGov is way out of bounds from original doctrine / original intent and this ruling could set it straight.

Wow. Let er rip!

Our country has morphed form governing by a set of laws to governing by a set of rules.

Get it back to governing by law.

And if they can't do that, it seems funding to them could be decreased by 25-50%

And Kagan is correct, most of the acts and powers stolen by the Fed Gov is unconstitutional.

Kagan said that?

sorry, had to downvote you just for putting the thought in my mind

if the USSC rules in the favor of WV (and the governmental agencies are defunded/disbanded), then in my book, he's already been a VERY successful president, regardless of whether he's president again

Praying they find in favor of WV. This would be the most important decision by the court in over 100 years and the most impactful to the future of my children and their offspring.

I want this Court to take on Executive Orders next.

EO should only be allowed as a stop gap (temporary). A quick fix for an emergency that only exists until Congress has time to act.

Congresses job is to create legislation. That is not the job of the Executive branch.

yup

this case has a lot more real-life benefits and impact than Dobbs, and the ruling could restore a lot of my faith in the country

don't know when the ruling will come, but if it comes before July 4th, that'll be the best independence day in my lifetime, by far

It's funny because this court is basically, pretty clearly, putting the legislative powers back with legislatures. Not exactly some "extreme" or "draconian" ideal.

This shite should have nipped in the bud decades ago. Now you have entire generations who have grown up knowing no different so it seems that it’s supposed to be this way. Combine that with a failure of public schools to teach civics in a manner that explains how our govt is supposed to work, mainly due to the same people running education that run the unelected bureaucratic agencies, and you get a whole lot of people who think returning to a system of checks and balances is an extreme idea because they’ve never seen nor heard of our government operating in such a way
