In my opinion, the Dems lost because of inflation. I do not think the trans baiting from Trump’s campaign would have had much salience in an economic circumstance more palatable to the middle and lower class.
When you have to put down a second mortgage to buy milk and eggs, the current administration is telling you that everything is great or getting better, then the other side telling you the current administration wants to fund gender reassignment for prisoners…well you start asking “what the frick?!” If everybody has cheap debt to buy cars and homes, their paycheck buys more, then all the trans baiting is received as “what the frick…are they talking about?!”
The thing about the GOP is they will use an election more about the rejection of a failed administration by the public as a mandate for all their ideological pet projects that are not universally popular. This is why I think the GOP is going to get wiped out in the midterms in 2026. The incoming administration is talking like they have a mandate that Dems got in 2009 but it is fairly weak in the house and senate.

Bill Maher’s two biggest issues are democracy and climate? 
He’s no better than the democrats he’s talking too. He made some solid points that had the same underlying, condescending tone he pissed and moaned about.

JD Vance nailed this huge flaw in the current left around an hour into his Joe Rogan podcast.
The left/ultra woke have taken up woke-ism as their religion. But what it lacks that any large cult or religion or any other theology is no built in mechanism for personal redemption or forgiveness.
With the left, when you “fail” or “sin” or “wrong think/speak”, you are immediately out. And even apologizing doesn’t work, once you apologize you are then attacked more and have to actively continually be even more and more sorry.
It’s horrible for any type of community and is why it really, be definitely, can only shrink over time
