Some fine arts degrees are actually a drawback to earnings.
IIRC, someone who gets a photography degree tends to make less than a freelancer who just built a portfolio instead.

No it’s not. Who are some of you people?

Engineering require hard work which tends to drive some away from it.
It was a good choice for me but isn’t a good choice for the lazy, the undisciplined and the incompetent. Those should indeed go into gender studies.

Oh, I get it. This thread is a bunch of engineers patting themselves on the back.

But did the philosophy degree teach the skills that made him valuable?
The ability to read complex materials, analyze them, draw conclusions, and put the salient points in writing? Nah, no one would benefit from those skills.

Some major’s definitely have a better chance of a higher ROI. I recall a friend getting a four year degree is something like Sociology or social work, and then a three year degree in marriage counseling. Seven years for a job that paid less than what school teachers start at in some states.
I always google people’s backgrounds when I have meetings with them so I know as much as I can about them. The woman who runs the local electric company (public utility) has a BA in English from UNC. The founders of Air B&B both got art degrees from SCAD before entering an MBA program.
Point is I don’t think any four year degree is useless. What you do with it matters, and if more education afterwards is the plan, the first degree isn’t going to hurt you as much as open the door to other academic opportunities.

Differentiate between starting salary ranges and what you are making now after so many years of experience and accomplishments.
