Anyone who says “the science is settled” or anything implying that science has given us a definite answer needs to be completely ignored after they have been ridiculed into silence.
Science is not a body of knowledge and facts. Science is a method to understand our world. It is a tool for us to gain said knowledge. Amd the goal of science is to disprove that knowledge with new, more reliable knowledge.
People lose sight of that and start making blanket concrete statements based on knowledge that some scientist somewhere is at this moment about to disprove and displace with new knowledge. It is truly amazing.

I was taught in school that anyone can apply the scientific method and conduct their own experiments. No one owns science. Certainly not some bureaucratic government agency.
