I don't see it being changed at the state level.

BREAKING: President Trump says he wants no more property taxes across the United States.

Pull this off, and Trump is the greatest president since George Washington. Period.

It's a total fricking joke that we buy a home and a vehicle, and we pay taxes on it, and then we pay taxes on it again every year, like clockwork.

The problem is these state governments are just as corrupt as the feds.

They can't be completely left to do as they please to screw people through taxes.

Well it is not within the purview of the Federal government…. The only thing Trump might could do to force the issue would be to get rid of the potential deductions on Federal income taxes…

Property taxes are solely a State issue…

People that are against this either don’t own property or live in states where the property taxes are thru the fricking roof because our idiotic government LOVES giving away our money to anybody that is not a legal citizen here!

You know why property taxes are thru the roof in Texas? Because all public schools are inundated with illegals!! That’s one of the many reasons, the other is why do we citizens have to pay for the stupidity that city councils come up with?

We are being overtaxed, period!! It’s time OUR GOVERNMENT learned how to actually cut down spending and hand outs!!

And you think a government that you have even less control over will somehow fix that problem? It is up to the people of that state to fix that problem. More government is never the best solution unless you have 0 government now.

If you follow that logic, it ends with "these people can't be left to do as they please and make life worse for others; they need to be controlled by those of us who know what's best for them."

I think Trump is pushing it because the states aren't going to touch that cash cow.

The President is well aware that property taxes are in the State's purview.

What he is doing is he is rattling some cages because he doesn't like what is happening in the property tax arena.

Here s a local example. Here in East Baton Rouge parish we have a council member who used revenue to purchase a $36,000 Polaris side by side that is housed in that member's carport.

Why does a council member require a Polaris side by side to carry out council duties ?

This is only the tip of the Iceberg. Remember we have many parishes/counties where behavior (missing a $13,000 copier ?) of this type goes on.

Dumb. Means your sales taxes and income taxes will go up.

Exactly. It's not like the need for essential services like local public schools, road and bridge maintenance and construction, law enforcement, fire protection, parks and ball fields, E-911 services, local emergency management, etc is just going to go away. You still have to fund those services. That's what your property taxes fund now. So, all you'd do is shift the tax burden to something else, like consumption (think 40% sales tax) or drastically increased state and federal income taxes. Certainly people on here are educated enough to understand that.

Property tax is a local state issue, but I have no problem with Trump bullying local governors into being more responsible and reducing or eliminating property tax and shrinking state governments like DeSantis is trying to do right now in Fl.

Big govt is bad, smaller government is good at both state and federal level.

They’re not going to do it on their own, they need / deserve a good working over.

Are you so ignorant that you don't understand that landlords pass on property taxes to tenants via rent? They just build it into what they charge for rent. Everyone pays property taxes, except minors still living at home. If you own or rent, you're paying property taxes

Well, that's dumb in places like FL and TX, who don't charge income tax but use property tax for revenues.
Do people who rent their homes in TX and Fla get to vote? Do their votes count just the same as people who own their home and have to pay property tax while they don't? Also, property tax can price middle American retirees right out of the homes they paid for. Property tax is BS. End it everywhere and go with sales tax.
