Good question.

I'm all for bringing in people from Taiwan, Japan, and the Netherlands to help train Americans in the semiconductor industry. I'm not understanding the need to bring in many people from India.

Wait, I thought you wanted us to hire all of those Americans getting computer science degrees?
Being for zero immigration is a retarded stance. But I agree that they don't need to be mostly coming from India.

The 600k are NEVER LEAVING. "Attending Universities" is just the Trojan horse.

The problem is less than half the men in this country go to college and the most popular degrees are not computer science. Where are you going to hire all of these American's that don't exist?
You are not listening. Either train existing Americans or move out.
America is not a developing nation anymore. We are long past the exponential phase of American growth. We are at the stationary phase like many European countries have already reached. Stop looking at GDP. GDP does nothing for your quality of life.

Quit with the effort to create division where's there isn't any. We MAGA knew that we needed skilled labor to fill the jobs where skilled labor was lacking. .
It's called attracting people who want to be in America and contribute to making her greater.
Now if we can just convince those Generation X'ers et al to stop this "hook-up" culture and start pairing off and making babies (as in future workers) we might be able to sustain this amazing economy that President Trump is creating. Heck, do like Poland did and give couples tax breaks and bonuses for having babies.
The democrats have aborted millions of potential workers so now we're forced to attract talented foreign workers.
President Trump is right about.........everything.

Importing Indians to fill entry and mid level tech roles isn't making America greater

Trump can read. He read the Bush plan for the GOP after MAGA. So hes taking them head on, just like he is with Obama and failed healthcare
The people he will hire didnt spend time getting degrees in:
Ethnic studies
Women studies
Art history
Visual And Performing Arts
Gender Studies
General Psychology Or Sociology

Most liberal arts programs don’t cover the tools modern workplaces run on, like Excel, SQL, project management platforms or basic marketing and analytics software.

Major companies like Apple, IBM and Hilton have eliminated degree requirements for many roles, opting instead to evaluate candidates based on their experience and practical skills. A 2022 study by the Burning Glass Institute revealed that millions of job postings have dropped bachelor’s degree requirements, and a 2020 analysis found a similar trend for positions like production supervisors. These shifts signal a growing recognition that a general college education often fails to deliver the specific competencies employers need today.

i love trump...but no he fricking isnt
sorry we dont need h1b for the indian who bought the local gas station thru a fed program to bring in family to run it.
that is what is happening.
also as GN said, they are bringing them in for entry level positions
that is not doing anythign to make america greater.
trump is wrong on the H1b visa issue and he should 100% go back to his first instincts which was to stop foreign students and kill h1b.
sorry he had it right and was talked into changing.

Until we fix our education system and demand quality performance we will continue to find ourselves in need of imported skilled workers. Equity and inclusion is only going to provide people who are content to sit around smoking a doob' and being content to giggle at mundane crap while living in poverty and squalor.
I totally disagree actually. The ability to write basic code is a skill that most Gen Z Americans have now. The H-1B workers from India aren't doing anything that most B students at a decent US high school can't do, and that is with no specialized training.
Our economy would actually be better served increasing the amount of unskilled (I would dispute the unskilled labor moniker as things like carpentry, concrete work, roofing, etc takes real skills to perform) nonimmigrant work visas we give out as opposed to flooding our market with more H-1B workers. There's more policy issues that would need to go into the calculation like entitlement reform, tech skills training reform, etc but generally speaking that is a summary.
Disclaimer that things like chip manufacturing and building ships doesn't necessarily apply to my points above. Those are very specific skills that impact national security we should be prioritizing in getting those workers here.

This is true.
I would submit however that American students' brains and goals have been sabotaged by a hijacked, educational infrastructure that purposely misled them with learning useless skills since at least the 1980s.

I ran a rehabbing homes business. I hired foreigners including Mexicans (green card). I also hired American workers. I found the Mexicans to be good hard workers, with excellent skills. Trust me, I was a skeptic. The Americans were skilled workers as well but their attitude was atrocious. Bottom line - the Mexicans worked circles around the American workers. Now that might not be the case in other areas of the country, but that's what I had to deal with in my area. Hunger tends to create good workers.
Having said that, I am 100% in favor of "Legal" immigration. We're all descendants of immigrants, eh?
President Trump is right about......... everything.

My problem is with Rosaleta who cleans the LaQuinta INN when Shamika whose sitting at home living off my tax dollars could be doing the job and Rosaleta could be back in Guatemala.
So Rosaleta working is the one you want to get rid of and not Shamika? In our current state you are still paying for Shamika with your tax dollars, paid for Rosaeta to be deported with your tax dollars, and now the LaQuinta Inn isn't being cleaned.

Correct
Academia has abused a generation of kids. We are forced to hire outsiders, to right the ship. then teach our kids what the universities have refused to do, because of white privilege

Yup. Funny how this worked out -- as if planned all along.
Also conspicuous -- the lack of American doctors during the last 30 years.
Wish someone would address this as we have done. Can't keep on hiding the truth of the matter.

Damned fine article, Penrod. Thanks for the link! It makes me feel a little better about the future and gives me a sense of pride in those states that form the heart of the South.

The universities have some absolute shite offerings in the multitude of liberal arts degrees that are available. However, science, engineering, medicine, and mathematics are taught quite well at the university level. The problem lies in the education levels at K-12 where students are by and large inadequately prepared to enter a competitive academic environment thanks to feelings, gender identity, and equity being the main focus rather than learning concrete subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry, etc.
Other countries have demanding academic standards for their younger students and don't spend as much time prioritizing social issues like our schools in the US have been doing for much too long. That's why the foreign students appear to be everywhere you look on campus these days, and why they excel in their studies.
The only way to learn and improve is to be challenged, and our schools have ceased to challenge students in favor of ensuring that "no child is left behind."
The problem isn't the universities. It's the public schools from K thru 12.

Why can't we go over there to learn these magic dark arts of building computer chips that apparently vanished like a fart in the wind since we used to build them here?
The O1 visa covers those who truly are best-of-the-best talents that need to be here, not slapdicks who can't and won't say no to crap wages.
