I can deal with this. No one would be able to bitch, honestly.
I'm totally on board. It's happened here in Alaska with some state and federal land

Yeah "potentially could" be used for pretty much anything
I didn't see where they had any reason to report 'use of offroad vehicles', sounds like it was for rustlin'

Why shouldn't the states be able to own and operate their own lands?
Because it takes away leverage from DC politicians who would use that land to permit crony corporations to conduct mining activities on the land...like say, uranium.
Awe...poor DC politicians.

Agreed, but we can't just sell public lands to a bidder

Give BLM land to the tribes.
If my memory serves me correctly, the tribes were all supportive of the designation of Bears Ears as a national monument.

Well to be honest, you guys confused everybody. We thought we are suppose to be destroying monuments.

It would be a shame to see these areas exploited for resources, but if that’s what the people of Utah want then
Before Clinton took the land, Utah had designated proceeds from mining/drilling on that land to education.

Just don’t see much energy exploration or production to be had in these areas given the current price environment and the push for eventual clean energy in the future.
A lot of current development and activity is in northeast Utah. These 2 monuments lie southeast Utah.

I thought monuments were important to Trump.
The monuments are not on the land that is being given back. It is like someone saying they are going to make your house a national monument then taking 1 plus million acres along with it. The truth is the Fed doesn't have enough money to maintain what it has. I am all for protecting our natural resources, but these two projects were the prime definition of government overreach.

Well it wasn't on the table for transfer and bear ears is forest service property, not blm.

Even if BLM owned land, I don't think the native population wants to live in Detroit, Chicago, etc.

Isn't it a pretty much insane amount of land the feds own in the western half of the country?

If these are the lands declared a monument by Clinton, they don't all look like those pictures. Much of it is scrubby and gray. It was only declared protected in order to prevent some sort of mining in the 1990s.
Posted on 12/4/17 at 2:38 pm to RogerTheShrubber
Oh shite. If he gave it to a tribe, liberals wouldn't know what to do but cry.
Posted on 12/4/17 at 2:40 pm to The Pirate King
It's not free to ranchers, they pay a grazing fee. Of course the grazing fee and the tourist income will all be lost as soon as the destructive crony capitalists get their oil slimy hands on the land.

But why
That is why, these aren't states, these are national land holdings. People have had millions of acres of their own land they owned stripped from them.
