He did a terrible job and destroyed his intended meaning by over explaining what he was saying. He intended to convey the reasons they were pushing for making divorce easier at that time but he wound up, myself included, leaving an impression that a woman should accept being abused for the sake of the kids. Except every media outlet other than Fox or Newsmax or other conservative news sources will use the words he has actually said and run with it 24/7. They will just leave out his complete statements, or the context, which would explain what he meant. And we have no control over that. That’s not what he said at all. He was talking about divorce being made easier or more common and people find excuses to just end a marriage rather than try to make it work and its detrimental to the children
