There is no way the American Military can win a fight against the populace within the borders of the United States. It just isn't happening.
You posit that the only reason they aren't being used against us is because they identify with us to much and won't shoot to kill.
I say the problem is that citizens knows where infrastructure lies and can disable it at any time. They also are more familiar with their home terrain.
Military might relies on supply trains for ground forces.
They could conduct air strikes, but then citizens would hit fuel storage depots for jet fuel. Not to mention that workers refining the fuel would most likely walk off the job leaving the planes grounded.
There is absolutely no case where the US military could successfully attack the citizens of the US long term.
