If so, what's the point? To try and claim a quick scalp, meager as it is, with the hope that if the regime survives the coming onslaught it'll give them more credibility domestically to carry on?

Apparently the gulf states begged them to come back to the table. I'm of the mind to tell them to frick off too. Half of them take money from Iran and use their proxy soldiers to frick shite up in the area. The other half are your usual muslim cowards who don't lift a finger to do anything unless they know they can overpower an opponent.
They know if Iran frees itself from radical Islam, some of these other failed states such as Lebanon are next to do so because all of the bad actor groups will lose their funding and support overnight.

They have basically been told “you will do what we want or else”. They may be willing to go down swinging with the ‘or else’. The reasons stated why we should attack them are many and have been a constant for a while but why now? What has changed in the last couple of months aside from them killing citizens rebelling against them?
