While they may have less money, less projection of power and instability, my point was that their ‘suffering’ is much different than that of the citizenry. There is always a great difference in the standard of living between the powers and the people in that type of governance but sanctions will have a more devastating effect on the latter, such as the devaluation of their currency.

There may be food, water and power shortages, but I find it hard to believe that their supreme powers are thirsty, hungry or sitting in the dark.

Not much more than 6000 barrels. BTW, Iranian terminal managers steal oil all the time by loading tiny tankers like this, should take about 30 minutes to do. They typically go out to the Gulf of Oman to discharge into a larger tanker. Know nothing are all excited over nothing.

This is a nothing burger

No doubt. But the calculation is that we must hurt the citizens to hurt the leaders. Too often commentators say that it’s only hurting the citizens. If that was true then we should definitely stop sanctions, but it’s not true.

I understand that. That calculation is definitely above our paygrade and certainly one that is sure to have collateral damage. Statecraft is definitely fraught with peril.

I am not TDS, but I am also not in the camp that’s 100% Trump no matter what. The issue to me is that Trump told the Iranians to go out in the street and protest, that help is on the way. That it was time for regime change. You don’t say that if you don’t mean it. The idea that now he’s concerned with a nuclear deal and missiles, says he’s willing to leave the mullahs in charge. When in the last 45 or so years, has that regime ever lived up to an agreement. If he is willing to negotiate and accept their word, what’s the difference between Obama and Biden.

Because that was so successful last time.

It really isn't that hard to see that the collateral damage is to Iran's proxies and its elites. Everyday citizens received no benefits from not being sanctioned. Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis are the hardest it.

Iran Situational Update:

-US increased tempo of airlift largely, 24 hour base operations in Germany to aid this, mainly air defences delivered, THAAD and Patriot systems and other infrastructure for strikes.

-Iran seized two ships in the Persian Gulf and attempted to board a US ship with gunboats and drones, was stopped by US naval escort.

-Iranian drones continue flights around the Gulf of Oman flying very close to carrier strike group, one Shahed 139 drone was shot down by an F-35 after getting too close to Carrier.

-US reconnaissance MQ-4C drone and P8 Poseidon aircraft continue runs around Persian Gulf, interestingly flew more south over the Gulf of Oman likely looking for Iranian Submarines and Drones.

-Talks to take place in Oman on Friday, despite uncertainty although Iran continues to refuse to discuss proxy or missile stockpiles so unlikely negotiation success as US has set these as red lines.

I just don’t see negotiations going anywhere.
Just a final attempt to save face by both sides before the inevitable.

No discussion of nukes or ballistic missiles. WTF do they expect to discuss? Which bakery in NOLA makes the best king cake or the Pride match for Iran in this summer's world cup?

Hope they forget to block the air shafts again this time.

Israel is already chewing on the bit and asking for the freedom to go ahead with strikes of their own. IRGC dumb-asses threatening them is only going to make the pain come quicker.
