There are no Army C-17 aircraft.

WTH. If the U.S. cant take out Iran with all the assets we have in place what will they do if they ever have to face china in the future.

Exactly. Trump should declare to the assembled military Generals and Admirals: "I expect a decisive and quick military victory over Iran so that we can install a new regime there."

Not making this political, but let me know what I just pulled out of my arse makes sense:

Iran has unique topography. Surrounded by mountains and hiding points for ongoing escalation, regional terrorist support, and TBD the will of their military with lots of places to hide for guerilla warfare/causing havoc in the Hormuz strait + Houthi havoc near the canal.

Even if half of their military/population is behind the current regime, does that end in civil war? This isn’t Venezuela. Not even Iraq.

We could demolish their military in a couple weeks with the assets we currently have in theater, but what would be the point?

I dont fear the mountains as much as I fear borders.
When military assets cross national borders for engagement and then retreat back into "no-go" zones, our political appetite for destruction and victory appears severely stunted.

The Iraqi/Iran border has been a problem in the past. It could be a thorn in the future.

The question isn't whether or not we are ABLE to defeat Iran (or whichever foe you want to replace them with), but rather if we are WILLING to defeat them.

Shut off the two most important economic points in the world (Suez and Hormuz nearby) and I promise you no one will have the want after a year.

And Iran knows this. They have more cards than most in this thread think. Would make the Vietcong jelly.

Starting to see some C17s list departures from Army posts (Ft Hood and Eustis)and I saw a C-146a AFSOC plane stop for fuel in Newfoundland on an overseas trip. Not sure if this is normal traffic or not but it seems much higher than usual.

Besides the fact that 90% of VC were dead at war's end, there is no comparison. Vietnam had thick jungles and the technology wasn't great to "see through" that jungle.

Iran has no jungle, no cover. And we have the technology to see a mouse crawl out of a volcano twenty miles away. They wouldn't be hiding for long.
