As long as they don't get brought back and reimbursed.

Agreed. But non-targeted workers could also not get paid. Deployed military members could not get a paycheck. So an enlisted person with a family at home could start not getting checks, that seems problematic to me.

Best, gop only has 53 votes. Dems wont cross the aisle unless we crawfish on a lot of the things that were cut, like extending obamacare, and no doubt schumer has thrown in a bunch more stuff,

They are screaming that millions of americans will be without health care. They never had it, the deductibles on obamacare are thousands of dollars.
If any citizen was in need of critical care they will get it.

Hell more illegal babies are born in many hospitals than citizens and they dont have "insurance".

Not getting a check will be tough on most of us until we get our back pay.

You might want to look into these 2 new inventions

1- Savings, its were you put money back instead of spending everything
2- emergency fund - its where you save money to be used during emergencies.

Being essential means that they still have to go to work during a shutdown. They will not receive any pay as long as the shut down is ongoing. They will receive any back pay whenever the shutdown is over. Not a “ paid vacation”. This is money that they went to work and earned, but can’t get paid because some politicians want to fund healthcare for illegal aliens and sex change operations for transvestites.

That may not be a huge deal for someone who is a longtime employee and is financially responsible, but for a young family who hasn’t had time to build up a lot of savings, it could be problematic.

I will but the expectations on my work load for the year won’t change because of a shut down. I will have to finish up that work when we return so with or without a shutdown, my workload will not change

I think it's funny that the only people who care if the Government shuts down. Is mainly on the Left. Must be tough for Democrats to fear monger to their base. When the right actively wants one and the left fears it. Pretty much sums up the mentality of The Left and The Right.

Thank you for that information. We do not have USSA, but should probably look into it for more than one reason. This is more of a continuation of her career or a 2nd career for her. I don’t see this dragging out long enough to become an issue for us, but it ticks me off how it could affect younger families.

I love it.. he is the best communicator we have.

This situation lines up more closely with J.D.'s purview, and he is an excellent thinker/speaker, but imo Marco is right there with him. Marco has been so damn impressive over the last 8 months.

But, obviously, this is more of a VP topic than it is for the SOS

my question is why has congress been on so many recesses this summer (house still out until next week) with no budget passed.

Congress should have to pass a budget before doing anything else and no days off (including weekends) until it is done.

Because their pay isn't impacted one way or another. They could shut down the goverment for a year and never miss a paycheck.

Republicans have this process down to a fine art.

Step 1
Vote no on everything so during election season you can say “I voted against more spending”.

Step 2
government gets shut down. Moderate republicans are pizzed off. Swing districts, swing democrats who have a field day scaring old people that their SS is going away.

Step 3
Republicans cave and vote for a bill that actually spends more than the earlier Step 1 bill, because “it was the best deal we could get, we’ll get em next time”. Now the conservatives in the party are pizzed too,

It’s crazy how good the GOPe is at losing both ends of their base.
