Look, how old are you?

I am old enough to grow up before Vatican II (adult before the changes)

You can say it is in the documents and the Catechism but I am telling you the reality of living it.

In my youth

A) Sicilian Catholic matriarchs
B) Full habit (only circle of face and hands exposed) nuns

Both were freakishly fast and strong when it came to beatings and disciple. If you knowingly ate meat on Friday, it was a MORTAL SIN and you took a beating for it. That is how you were taught in my youth.

I feel pretty certain the nuns and matriarchs of my youth would go to jail in this day and age, but back then they were the "living" word of God and you did what they said or suffered the punishment of the disobedience.

What are you arguing? That the contradiction isn’t important? It’s important in the sense some allege that the Bible is God’s word inspired by the Holy Spirit. These same people allege that God is perfect, all-knowing, and all-powerful. Either none of those attributes are correct, or the Bible isn’t divinely inspired, at a minimum. Why would God inspire imperfection and mistakes?

quote:

So people like you could feel confidently justified in your rejection of Jesus Christ, and not be intellectually forced to accept that which your hardened heart freely despises- surrender to God.

Or here’s an idea: God could actually not harden any hearts and provide a perfect, error-free, contradiction-less set of instructions on how to live that are evidently true.

Your argument is particularly weak. It’s the same argument the Bible makes…. Some people aren’t going to believe this evidently untrue bullshite, but it’s not b because it is evidently untrue bullshite, but rather God has hardened their hearts (not brains/minds ) purposely so that they wouldn’t believe.

The debt of sin that is owed by sinners is owed to the Father,

God can’t keep his story straight, as usual. In Exodus, Deuteronomy, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah, it specifically states that one person can’t pay for the sins of the other. Jesus being a sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins of others is non-Jewish.

quote:

Due to His just nature, God the Father demands payment for sin.

He could just not be an a-hole, and simply forgive. Also see my response above - it isn’t just for one to pay the sin debt of another.

quote:

God became a man to die when He didn't deserve to (because He didn't sin). He suffered, was tortured, abandoned by those whom He loved, and bore the full wrath of His Father for the sake of sinners.

This is very problematic- God became a man to sacrifice himself to appease… himself?

quote:

It was a true sacrifice.

Every other sacrifice in the Bible has the animal or human baby dying permanently. That’s what makes it a sacrifice - it’s gone forever. Jesus popping back up 3 days later isn’t a sacrifice in the same sense.

There is no use in explaining further to you. You now know the truth and you are rejecting it. You will be accountable for your rejection of the truth that has been clearly presented to you.

Turn from your sins. Stop worshiping yourself as god of your life and embrace the one true God and His son Jesus. Trust in the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross and even your sins will be forgiven.

Continue to reject the truth and you will get the desire of your heart: the absence of God’s love and grace forever. However, what you will receive is His wrath and judgment for eternity for your sins against Him. You have been told many times what you must do to be saved from that fate (repent of your sins and believe in Jesus), so you will not have an excuse. Repent and trust in Christ.

A thread about Venial Sin does not belong on Political Talk. Why is this thread still here??

I'll tell you why - so it can serve as a Tigerdroppings platform for Anti Catholic Hate Speech.

So you give up defending the indefensible problems and contradictions.

quote:

You now know the truth and you are rejecting it.

I’m aware of my reality and how things work in nature. I’m rejecting your falsehoods and delusions.

quote:

Turn from your sins. Stop worshiping yourself as god of your life and embrace the one true God and His son Jesus. Trust in the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross and even your sins will be forgiven.

You keep saying stuff like this repeatedly, but understand it is a waste of your key strokes for someone who isn’t already a believer in your particular brand of false reality. Imagine if I said, “Foo, trust in the one true God and the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)”. If you aren’t already a Muslim, that would be a waste of time to tell you that, wouldn’t it?

quote:

the one true God and His son Jesus

Of course you can’t even keep your trinitarian views in a somewhat cohesive logical and consistent format. Are you saying there is God and his son Jesus (2 deities)? Of course not. Honestly though out of all of modern Christianity, I think the most illogical belief and most inconsistent thing from what the Bible actually says is the Trinity. That’s why the church fathers argued over it for 400 years and the arguments continue to this day.

ETA: the self-sacrifice of Jesus, through the Trinitarian lens, may be the illogical and nonsensical thing in Christianity. It’s also the basis of that very Christianity. God has to sacrifice himself to pay a ransom to himself to save people from a hell that he created. It’s utter nonsense.

Only in organized religion will you find that the "right" way to raise your children was to send them off to get disciplined by a bunch of celibate women.

I started the thread because Talking Head on one of the Political talk shows made a comment about VENIAL SIN so I put up the post to rebut their comment.

Eastern faiths send you to just celibate men, and they kidnap you as a child.

I think the Hindu's may be the most tolerant but no beef with them so they lost me as a convert.

I heard a sermon on that topic at the Ash Wednesday service. The pastor pointed out that going to a seafood place and stuffing one's gut with all you can eat shrimp and fish does not dovetail with the penitential spirit of Lent.

Twisting truth. And a Total Lie. As usual.

There is ZERO mention, ZERO reference. ZERO definition of either "VENIAL" or "MORTAL" sin in THE BIBLE. They are totally fabrications of the RCC.

TRUTH: Your Catholic "Catechism" does not - repeat -- DOES. NOT. EVER. supersede nor replace the words of actual Bible, Scripture and Word of Jesus Christ.

The RCC continues to dismiss actual Scripture and make up, twist, and fabricate their own version of a "bible" (Like Mormonism who also do the same thing, -- it's "bible" NOT of or from God or Jesus Christ.)

ONLY the Holy Bible, ONLY its words are legal, and of / from God Himself.

The RCC dis-connect with the Biblical Authority, God's own Authority on ALL matters of God's Law and Gospel is absolutely mind-boggling. THE ONLY Authority was, is, and shall always be THE BIBLE.

Got a problem with that? Take it up with Jesus Christ face to face at the Great White Throne.

Ironic that here you are with a melting post.

Whose Authority should a "good Catholic" prioritize and abide in?

Catholic Catechism? (and its Papal "authority"?)

or

The Bible (The Word of God?)

There are only two choices.

There are 1/2 dozen to a dozen choices

The Bible was oral only for the first 250 - 500 years

Sanskrit may be the first "written" version

Greek was the language of the "educated" Romans

Constantine convened the Council of Nicaea and dropped books from the original Bible and added some

Lots of variations since Including the 2 English kings (forget the 1st but King James was the 2nd)

Torah & Bible & Koran all have parts of the modern Bible

In modern times, good to get the Word of God in bulk at a good price
