If you want your kid to be a good Catholic, you send them to Catholic school. If you want them to be a good Christian, you send them to a Christian school. The sole purpose for government schools is to raise good, government cogs to the machine who don't question the process.
Universal access to government schools is one of the planks to Marx's foundation for socialism.
The Department of Education is a staggering overreach by the Federal government. It's not in the Constitution, therefore it's a 10th Amendment issue. Back to the states.

The problem with public schools is that Due to Political Correctness older translations of many books have come under revisionism, which is the revision of an accepted, usually long-standing view, theory, or doctrine, especially a revision of historical events. Revisionism is an aspect of cultural dissemination of misinformation.
Revisionism is the #1 tool of the Social Liberal Engineers of our culture for the deliberate dumbing down of our sons & daughters.

This is what's wrong with our country. Parents rely on other people to instill values in their children. If you want your child to be a good person, raise him or her to be a good person. Model righteous behavior. Set a good example.

Sluttiest girls in high school went to catholic schools, the druggees went to Christian private schools. People never stop becoming who they are meant to be. Gotta be a good parent and be the example and not rely on anyone else.

The MSM knows exactly what they want. Socialism.

Perhaps we should continue voting for the private school politicians who have gotten us to this point.

Then one of the parents needs to stay home during the formative years to see that it's done properly if that is the parent's desire of instilling values. Ain't gonna happen at daycare and kindergarten.
Get the kid in first grade and then seek your occupational goal.

The number of technical virgins at my very conservative high school belies this argument.
Also a lot of dudes that spend time bragging on Facebook about crushing six packs and loose women these days.

Goverment schools were never intended to create a highly educated populace.
Actually, public schools were created to teach children in the colonies to read the bible in order that they might be saved. How's that working for ya?

People need to review some of the theory of Education.
One theory emphasizes that Indoctrination is a core function of education. Of course, that is obvious. Remember the old school days when Grade School kids would stand, face the US flag put their hands over their hearts and say the Pledge of Allegiance? That is an example of Indoctrination.
Now, when you have Leftist in total control of the public school curriculum, you will indeed have Indoctrination, but, it will be Leftist indoctrination.

I hardly ever post but the topic of public education has always been fascinating. The truth is American public education is performing exactly the way Horace Mann, John Dewey and the other fathers of public education intended. It was designed by them to create a socialist non individualistic society where progressive ideas woukd become the primary influencer during a child's development. They never referred to the duty to impart knowledge but only to the social, communal goals for society. Anyway...I could go on but I would sound like a tin foil hat dude. In reality, I'm just a 51 year old father of three that has been wrestling with these issues for quite a while. If anyone is truly interested I will send links to support what I've stated.
Good post. This is related to my post about Indoctrination being considered as a core function of Education by some educational theorists. You have named some of these theorists.

Public schools aren't the problem, the public is the problem. If every kid wanted to learn and had consequences if they refused to, there would be no need for private or charter schools. Those schools were created to get away from the real problem with public schools.

I'm not advocating virtue by right of where one's textbooks are issued, it's just a point to show that if you want an apple tree, you plant apple seeds, etc.
As a society, we've bought into the myth that it's society's job to raise and educate our children. It's all part of the wussification of America. This is why you have Millennials marching in the street because an election didn't go their way.

Hey Zack, the 1647 Ole Deluder Satan Act in Massachusetts Bay Colony. It is our first public education act in US history. Once a town reached a certain size, they were required to open a public school to teach their kids to read, write, think, and compute so they could not be fooled by that ole deluder Satan! I always taught that in AP-US History during my 36 years of teaching in public high schools.

Damn straight. It even justified teaching girls to read so they could be read the bible. Of course girls in those days had to learn to cook, sew and clean.
My wife can read but she can't cook, sew or clean.
