Yup.

I went to bed thinking he would win the popular vote and HRC would win the EC. I mean certainly some first-timer would screw up and go after the popular vote while the "smartest woman in the world" would go after the EC, right?

Yep. I was camped out in the recliner in my bedroom (it served as my man cave at the time) drinking a bottle of wine. Started out thinking that witch Hillary was going to be POTUS then slowly watching it turn for Trump. I remember watching some website that showed the odds and it went from like 95% Hillary and it slowly turned towards Trump all night.

I couldn’t believe it. I was texting all my political friends and we simply couldn’t believe what we were watching unfold. It was glorious.

The next day I couldn’t talk about it at work bc I was working for a very strict company. Later on when I was behind closed doors with some clients I knew were cool Trump supporters we all openly discussed how great it was.

I didn't watch any election coverage during the evening. I was on here at 10:00pm and saw the thread title, "New York Times has Trump with 95% chance to win" - I then watched the rest of election coverage until at least 1:30 or 2:00.

Man, what a night?

Cautiously optimistic, but most posters didn’t seriously believe Trump would win, and the trolling was far far far worse than it is now. We had a lot more contrarian posters, and the general mood was for more petty. Lots of posters calling each other cucks and deplorables, and what not. The board didn’t really get hype until the “you’d be in jail” comment.

Election night and the day after was glorious

PoliTalk history pages are pretty sketchy - it's like there are tons of threads missing from right before 11/10/16, then everything that's been posted since. Over 6000 pages since right after the election.

But to give you a bit of an idea, check out this Meauxjeaux thread.

I was following the USC poll which showed the race being very close. They had a set pool of respondents for the whole nation-wide run-up. They had a "trick question" they used by asking who the respondents thought their neighbor was going to vote for. If they said, Trump the respondent was counted as a likely Trump voter.

They hit it dead on.

I was trying to convince fence-sitters and I was super-busy bookmarking filthy progs for after the election. I'd be lying if I said I was as confident about victory as I sounded. It was fun as hell. From about March 2016 on it was just a blast. I've never had more fun.

New York Times website was where all the action was in 2016.

It was incredible.

I know that traffic to this site during the election was an all time high. I think I remember a stickied Chicken thread post election that showed we had tens of millions of unique page views that night from everyone constantly refreshing the threads and poli board from the yuge upset victory. One of the best nights ever on this site

In 2012 a bunch of posters were convinced Republicans would beat Obama and the polls were wrong.

Those posters had me convinced and I was disappointed on election night.

In 2016 most posters felt the polls were again wrong and Trump would win. But many like myself felt we were getting a repeat of 2012.

Most of us were hopeful but resigned to the idea of "Madam President."

That is what made election night even sweeter!

I remember Sean Trende from RCP tweeted early in the evening as Indiana and Kentucky polls closed that “This will be an early night” because the numbers one candidate (TRUMP) needed vs. what Romney got there in 2012 were not enough. People were freaking out and it turns out Trende was very wrong. About an hour later, Florida started looking great and the NYTimes election outcome predictor started swinging strongly towards TRUMP.

It was a lot more gloom and doom minus a few who believed Trump would pull it off.

Lots more concern troll threads quoting the polls and how Trump is done

This is really weird because I didn't know he tweeted this but when Indiana and Kentucky closed I thought the exact opposite. When I saw Trump running the score up in those two states I knew it was going to be an interesting night. You could tell almost immediately after those two states closed at the beginning of the night.

Watching the % to win meter creep from 85% chance of HRC winning to 100% DTJ was more fun to watch as any CFB game I can remember.
