What, exactly, do you think boomers owe you?

First, I did not call you selfish. You are the one who threw that out there.

Second, what's up with this:

quote:

They refuse to take money from me and don't like it when I spend too much on the grandkids.

What are we arguing about if you are trying to give your kids and grandkids money? My only point is that I want to do that when my wife and I die.

Third:
quote:

Hope you starve.

Says a lot about you, bro.

Probably because they did a shitty job of raising their kids, have now realized it, and have said WTF, they'll just throw it away so I'll throw it away.

I take it you have awful parents.

If that's true, I hope you don't speak to them and you beat your dad's arse.

Rich families would take that money, and invest it in the future of the family, either through land purchases or stock purchases.

They would also use that money to invest directly in their grandchildren.

Healthy societies always prioritize the next generation.
Cool, you're talking few people, the "rich families"

Most people are not rich.

Good advice, quite a bitter indignation he has.

That’s why it’s best to play the shell game with your money vs government taxes . Unload what you have to “leave “ behind bed you expire . Since giving large sums of money tends to invite scrutiny and taxes give smaller amounts often to the members of your circle that you would expect to anyway . It does them more good now than 10-20 years from now when they’re more established anyway . You get to add that extra memories to boot .

This is literally how they've always acted. Just look at who is running the country and has been for two decades.

Boomers = worst generation ever

They not only inherited money from their parents (that they wasted and squandered) they also inherited the best economy in history and are leaving a huge mess behind

So many people so misinformed it's not even funny.

The overwhelming number of Boomers, like myself, did not inherit a damn thing from our Parents. We grew up in small, 1500 sq ft homes with 2 or 3 brothers and sisters. Our parents drove old, used cars, and most didn't have much money to give us except the roof over our heads, a few sets of clothes to wear, and food on the table. We rarely went out to eat, because our parents couldn't afford it.

Almost all of us worked while we went to high school to pay for our 10 year old used cars and a few dates on saturday night. Most of us weren't given a dime for college. We worked hard during college, and took on extra jobs in the summer, to pay for our tutition, books, and board. I couldn't afford to do much of anything while at LSU except go to class, study, and go to home football games.

The vast majority of us parent's are just now dying or have died in the last 10 years or so. Guess who pays for most of their unisured medical expenses, nursing home expenses, and other needs? That would be us.

And.... along the way, we raised children in homes that we could only dream about. Gave our children private school educations, and nice cars to drive. Paid for all their college expenses.

And........ we are the selfish ones?????

So... take your squandered inherited and wasted inheritance money and shove it up your arse. Most of us didn't inherit a damn thing.

More than two decades because politicians of previous generations didn’t try to rule into their damn eighties like Boomers do.

I don’t really blame Boomers for not taking great care of the bounty they Inherited. I think to some extent they and everyone else now are “victims” of pharmaceuticals. Society hasn’t even had time to adjust to penicillin, much less birth control and amphetamines.

I do blame them for their lack of introspection and the seeming total lack of empathy they have for generations coming up in a much less hopeful world than they did.

How much did college cost then? How much did a decent home cost in 1990?

Yet you blame them for being spoiled?

I don't have a problem with this. They earned that money and have every right to spend it and enjoy the rest of their lives.

You couldn’t be more accurate in this account if you had a week to come up with it . It sounded just like everyone I knew coming up .

It's all relative my man. Most jobs paid $2.75 to $3.00 an hour. After I graduated from LSU I got paid a grand total of $16,000 a year. Took me about 5 years in the work force to raise my income to $28,000 a year.

I didn't buy my first house until I was 31 years old. It cost $155,000. The down payment came from saving money on those great jobs paying $16K-$28K a year.

When and who did I blame for being spoiled? My two boys are most definetly not spoiled. They worked in high school and college just like I did, just had nicer house and cars to drive and got their college completely paid for. They have great jobs after graduating from LSU and do a great job of supporting themselves.

You sound like the spoiled one here or one thinking he deserves more. lol

What about the low interest mortgage rates and not paying Federal Income Taxes (Child Tax Credit) that millennials get?

Hah! The argument is that so many of the current young think just because people who have worked all their lives have some money to spend we should give it to them. The point is make your own money and be proud you did. I am glad I raised my kids to be self sufficient and too proud to take money from me or anyone else. The "hope you starve" comment should have been followed with "if you can't figure it out".
