Yep - but with the government shut down over a border wall, and a LEGAL immigrant police officer having just been killed by an illegal who crossed the border, Trump is going to dial up the pressure, appeal to emotions, and make this a focal point of SOTU.
The optics are going to be extremely awkward on Dems, and could be what moves the needle of public opinion.
Trump knows it. Dems know it.

I think Pelosi and the Dem leadership is concerned about the decorum of the new Dem freshmen. With Trump right there in front of them they could break out into a screaming chant:
'NO JUSTICE ...NO PEACE!'
Then go to:
'NO BLOOD FOR WALL!'
Then Cortez might take off her clothes and start screaming for impeachment.
The optics would not be good.

It's hard for the media to spin his comments in real time while he speaks directly to the people. He is going to pull out a bunch of parents of dead children killed by illegals, and rape victims, and then he's going to list off all of times these same democrats votes for border security and question why they won't now and then brag about his accomplishments. Facts and fulfilled campaign promises are kryptonite to these people.
And they can't rebutt facts in real time. And there is literally no rational explanation for why they all suddenly don't want border security other than orange man bad.

Because they are desperate to try and exert pressure on him. It’s nonsensical, but it’s their only move because they are so deranged that they can’t compromise even one inch on border security, even though they’ve voted for steel slats in the past.
