Right.
But we were the only ones to put them in charge of our Launch Operations Center, Engine Development, Ballistic Missile Design, Launch Vehicle and Propulsion Development for a Moonshot, Development of Ballistic Missile Guidance Systems, plus all the stuff that von Braun did.

The Marxists in DC need a boogeyman to keep the MIC going and to blame unexpected election results on.

If we can be close allies with Japan, England, Germany, Italy, etc etc, why can’t we with Russia by now?

None of those have designs on being a global hegemon and none of them have invaded a neighbor post-WW2.

Maybe in the future, but not now. Putin doesn't want to work with the West. He wants to work with China and establish a rival sphere of influence. I'd love to live in the world where Russia gets along with its neighbors, but that's not happening.

No, Russia is a multi-cultural, and multi-racial society.

The Russian orthodox church is entirely state-controlled, and firmly enmeshed as an arm of the state. The Kremlin gives talking points to the Russian orthodox church.

It is true that Putin has abandoned appealing to liberals, but it's wrong to call him a conservative. He has firmly rejected classical liberalism. He makes overtures to cultural conservativism to try and control and pacify the masses. It's all an act. He's not religious, not married, and doesn't have a family iirc.

Because politicians who got to Washington in the 1970's and won't fricking leave say so.

The Putin Bros won't like this.

Putin is pro choice, anti free speech, anti free media, is a habitual liar, rigs every election, and is anti U.S.

Yet Trumpkins love the firmer KGB agent.

Ronald Reagan is spinning in his grave.

Peace is bad for business. The America Military-Industrial-Intelligence complex needs a global enemy to get funding.

Putin’s mother was Orthodox and had him baptized as a child.

Divorced, has two children. No one can see inside his head, but he goes to service every Sunday. He’s quoted the Orthodox religious philosopher, and White Russian, Ivan Ilyan several times.

Ilyan died in exile, Putin had his body returned and reburied in a state service. That wasn’t necessary, so at minimum he considered it a good idea. I think it’s most likely that he likes Ilyan‘s ideas.

Putin has also funded church building across the country. His critics say he’s too generous to the Muslim population though, and they hate the Muslim migrant workers that he’s brought in from Central Asia.

This goes back to Byzantium. The state is the center of legal and moral authority.

people never smile

This is a basic Slavic norm.

Slavs don’t walk around smiling because it’s not considered honest behavior. You should only smile when something makes you happy. And happiness is a transitory emotion.

For the same reason Slavs don’t say things like “how was your day” and expect a polite reply.

If you ask a Slav that question, they will give you a painfully honest, warts and all, response.

Being genuine is a core cultural value.

Did you go on a mission trip to Russian Appalachia?

Sure we can look at some cuties in Moscow and say they are just like us.

They are a European people, but they’re not just like us. They are much more community focused, and have a much stronger sense of family, and nation. I was struck by how people constantly recognized me as a person in a way that does not happen in Western cultures.

They have their problems, and many of the same problems we have, but their culture is in better shape than ours, which was shocking to me. How can that be true after 79 years of Soviet rule. And what happened to us?

Mostly unfettered access to the internet and the advent/unrestrained growth of social media.

It has left western society superficial, vapid, and untethered from its roots.
