And in a worldwide soccer market, every team can find depth. Do you think they all have to be American or some shite?

the league has depth issues

where are the players going to come from??

Unless we revamp American youth development MLS has a very low glass ceiling.

Every single sports team does this. They count giveaway tickets as "attendance" regardless of the people show or not, along with many other shady practices. Look at reported attendance vs what most of these stadiums actually look like on matchday.

You only care now that a team is moving. Ridiculous.

You don't understand his point. It's actually the opposite of what you're intimating.

Rendering at a proposed site released by Crew ownership. Looks like a lot of effort to just be trying to get a deal from Columbus

Dude they are gone. Hell, Ron Garber is behind the move too. When the head of the MLS is spearheading a move then you're screwed. I just don't understand why he will let a team like Cbus move to Austin but would not reward Austin with an expansion team previously. It's just a bad, bad precedent he's starting here. 3 teams in Texas. Unbelievable.

MLS is becoming a joke under Garber. The shady shite is how the Crew owner was getting information about potential MLS expansion or team moves before even becoming an owner.

It looks like it's becoming more likely than not that the team will move to Austin.

MLS stadium talks to start, city also considers alternate uses for site
quote:

AUSTIN (KXAN) — With varying factions pushing for different development options at McKalla Place in north Austin, the Austin City Council decided to look at continuing discussions about what can become of the lot. This doesn't shut the door for a Major League Soccer stadium, but it also opens the door to other mixed-use developments, despite Precourt's insistence that they need an answer by this summer.

One of the resolutions that passed calls for the city to begin talks with Precourt for the stadium. The other resolution calls for considering any alternate proposals for the site. Both votes happened just before 4 a.m. Friday. The city council may make a choice about which route to take at its Aug. 9 meeting, according to a city tweet. In a statement, Precourt said "Our goal is to be in a position to enter into an agreement on a public-private partnership with the city by the next council meeting on August 9."

im sure lots of people will be excited for this but i cant see them getting great turnouts. i go to lots of sporting events and have little to no interest. not sure how this is gonna play out. i dont have a great feeling for the future success of this club once people realize mls tickets are more than $12.

at least there will be a new concert venue for the domain so all the uppity transients wont have to drive out to cota

Yeah, I have no clue how it will play out either. I hope it's successful, and the location is more optimal than stadiums like FC Dallas to get people to come. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

This is the big difference between MLS and European leagues. In Europe, the club's identity is tied to the community. In America some rich a-hole can buy the team, gut it, and then move it away. Sucks for Columbus which has been one of the best American soccer cities for a while and laid the foundation for a lot of what is happening around the league.

austin just isnt a good sports town. people who are actually interested will go once in the first year, then probably not many times after.

but we have wanted a pro team for a long time. this will determine if it is sustainable or not. my gut feeling is no. even if soccer is a niche sport and "growing" and austin is a "soccer town" that gets good world cup viewing ratings.

how much are most MLS tickets? Bc I feel like there isn't a game you have to pay more than $20 to get in

With tax I got a ticket for FC Dallas for ~30 dollars. It was right at midfield, too.

that's reasonable. looking at the houston dynamo, they are pretty expensive. $70-$100 midfield lowers
