We ended 14th, with 4 teams ahead of us who were originally ranked behind us.

I don’t think that really matters tbh. World Cup rankings are entirely separate from fifa rankings. I wouldn’t put us behind Australia for instance, and Germany is still better than us. And they’re kind of arbitrary since the ranking is based on points in the group stage and everyone is playing in different groups.

All that said, 14th sounds about right for where we are currently

We'll be ahead of Germany in the new FIFA rankings:
LINK
Also, the top two teams in the world will be here for Copa 2024 (if we still get it--could be multiple nations hosting): LINK
Would be OK with groups in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, & here, with knockouts in both North and South America and the championship in Miami.

Wales: 30th out of 32
Iran: 26th out of 32

Anyone else still saying we had the hardest group?

We made our group look the hardest because of lack of talent and skill

I would love for us to compete for the title in ‘26, but it would take miracle development or some defections from other countries.

Probably goes to the group with the two semifinalists.

Our midfield is arguably already good enough to compete for a title. Keeper and the majority of our back line could use an upgrade.

Our forwards are an absolutely collective DISASTER and we desperately need changes across the board in the next 4 years.

What exactly did Turner do wrong in your eyes?

I hope the average fan isn’t this delusional. I love MMA but we have a long way to go. Plus we need depth that we don’t currently have.

Our outside backs are pretty solid and I’ve been very happy with Turner. Not sure what you’re seeing here.

Our new coach needs to be innovative enough to create a system that incorporates the use of a CAM. We need more creativity in the final third. We are producing CAM's Reyna/Aaronson plus serval young ones Mihailovic/younger Aaronson. We ran out of gas in the midfield during the WC with a combination of Weston's lack of full fitness and GGG's either lack of trust in de la Torre or his fitness coupled with the elephant in the room of not playing Reyna in CM.

Still need a backup left back badly.

This. MMA is great at most things but pretty shitty at creating / finishing chances. This can work ok if you have elite chance creators/finishers up top or on the wings, but we simply don’t. I feel that a dedicated attacking mid (like a 4-2-3-1) would remedy some of these issues at the expense of a little defensive solidity. One of the biggest issues with Gregg’s roster selection imo was the lack of midfield depth. If LDLT wasn’t going to play we needed one of Williamson or Mihailovic there.

As much as I love the midfield, I think to really achieve that next step, we need an #8 who can create while still providing some box-to-box quality. I think Adams and Musah are locks goin forward if healthy, which makes McKennie that odd starter out.

no one thought the team was a contender going in.

people just listed issues with strikers.
passing was meh too if you ask me.

there's nothing about this team that says just a tweak or two and we can compete with France and Argentina.

its a plus we have a solid pro league now.
its a plus our best guys get to play in the best leagues now.

if your life depended on it no one would pick USA to be in the final 8 next wc.

I hope there's a new coach soon.
