Well we all knew that would happen before the match

We are not Barca or City no matter how many times we try and force it

He's not wrong. They essentially just counted on our CB pairing to shift towards the man with the ball on the wing and create a lane. Matt plays across to keep the far post shot out, and they slot it across him.

They ate us alive on those mistakes. Adams let a free runner by, but frankly, the CBs just played it poorly. Ream was even screaming at Zimmerman after the second.

This isn’t a call out so much as LVG being Dutch.

Yesterday he was talking about how well coached we are.

They had like four crosses. The issue wasn’t that we left our flanks exposed it’s that we were awful at defending the crosses when they came in.

But that's what he's saying. You attack the flanks and pull the CBs that direction with a central run or run from the opposite flank. The space and time they had to make the passes they scored on was far too much for a World Cup level match. That's what he means. Attack the flanks to open up your lanes and exploit that.

That was obvious during the match.

The only tactical thing that stood out was how the Dutch man marked MMA and took them out of transitional play. This flank discussion is nothing revolutionary…rather than crosses into the six yard, they drew the ball ball to the trailing player. This is nothing revolutionary.

This. Y’all are acting like switching the ball to a wingback is something we hadn’t planned for. Prior to this game our guys had been very solid defending crosses into the box. Frankly, I think we were expecting their aerial game to be a bigger threat, hence starting Zimmerman.

MMA were worn down by playing every game and going hard for almost 90 or more every time. The Dutch man marked them and then subbed 2/3 of their midfield at halftime and continued to man mark them with fresh legs. Gregg’s biggest error in team selection was not bringing more midfielders. I think Mihailovic, Williamson, and Tillman could have helped this team. If LDLT wasn’t healthy enough to contribute he shouldn’t have been on the plane.

I was coaching all morning but I was able to watch a decent bit between games. I don’t think the Dutch did anything to really hurt us from what I saw. We didn’t take our chances, and they did. I would imagine we had a higher expected goals based off what I saw.

It depends on who is providing the xG but we were equal if not a little better. We had way, way more entries into their final third though. But overall I agree with your assessment.

There were few times the Dutch brought it to us, but every time they did, I thought, "oh, frick, they're gonna score". Even when they didn't, they just felt really dangerous. I didn't feel that way before, even against England
