Bronchitis seems a bit weak, but maybe it hits different in mideast climates?

This is very strange

Yeah that is fricking wild to me. I get being sad and all that but tweeting at her like she's some voice in the ear of national politics is weird.

It is weird, who knows.

A reasonable question might be "who would like to see Qatar under the spotlight for political murder during their one shining moment"

I feel bad for laughing at the thought of the Uber driver giving the passenger a 1-star rating because of this ride.

Did his brother really tweet at Megan Rapinoe for help?
In fairness he just lost his brother and believes he was murdered due for supporting him for being gay. He’s in total shock

The government? Sure. But I mean Christian Fundamentalist/Extremist bombed the 1996 Olympics, so it’s not like a country full of Muslim fundamentalists/extremist couldn’t have one who would do something like murder someone who has criticized their authoritarian/theocratic culture.

Not that it’s the most likely scenario, but it’s surely not near as implausible as it might normally be.

Obviously it could be a coincidence, but it seems noteworthy that he tweeted this yesterday (with a substack article). Tweet
quote:

NEW: World Cup Daily, Day 25. They just don't care. Qatari World Cup organizers don't even hide their apathy over migrant worker deaths, including the most recent one.

I did not care for Wahl’s writing. I felt it was overly political, arrogant at times and progressive when all I care about is the game itself.

With that said, this is beyond fricked up. I hope it wasn’t foul play. No one deserves to go out so young. Especially someone who covered the game so passionately regardless if I always agreed or not. He was, quite frankly, an icon in American soccer journalism.

The foul play angle doesn’t make any sense. The government would have just detained and then deported him if he was really a problem. It’s wasn’t like he was going to blow the lid off something.

It just sucks for someone that young pass like that.

Doesn't have to be the government

I had a case of bronchitis in may 2017 that nearly made me want to jump in front of a train. Way worse than the 3x i had covid

I always gave grant a hard time and he made it easy sometimes but you hate to hear this news. Hopefully nothing sinister involved. He did a lot of good stuff for the game here.

But foul play from the government doesn’t make much sense. But he’s in a country full of fundamentalists who adhere to an extreme authoritarian and theocratic culture, and he’s been a harsh critic of that culture. So it’s not like it’s out of the question that some random person would be willing to silence a person like that.

He has been harsh but countless other journalist have been as well who are there. He wasn’t over the top, it would be strangle to single him out.

Not saying I think they did it at all but if you’re going to “make an example” he’s a logical choice. The non government fundamentalist actor theory makes the most sense to me though. Very sad

A reasonable answer would be Qatar doesn’t give a frick.
They didn’t allow beer, they pressured FIFA for yellow cards for any team wearing rainbow flags, they all know we know they had literal slaves building the stadiums and thousands died. They don’t care.
Grant fricked around and found out. The whole, “when in Rome” adage is apt here.

To my knowledge, he was the most vocal against Qatar and was the loudest one that was actively trying to piss them off. Like he knew damn well what he was doing with the rainbow shirt.

idk man, there's a seed of doubt.
