See I forgot they were supposed to expand the field. Nvm then I thought that meant CONCACAF outside the hosts had less spots in the original 32

Plus don’t the auto bids get left out of the qualifying rounds? So Mexico Canada and USA wouldn’t compete in qualifiers for 2026

Watching the video of it again, it did my heart good having to see Sunil congratulate the federation presidents.

He had the look of someone who just got kicked in the balls while doing it, and it makes me happy.

This parking situation around the citrus bowl needs a serious overhaul if they want to host. Was a clusterfrick for the LSU game

If Miami or Orlando end up being selected, hopefully we'll learn from 1994 and use then exclusively for night games, lest we end up with a repeat of Jack Charlton

My picks for the 10 US venues:
Los Angeles-#2 population
San Francisco-culture
Seattle-essentially a 4th Canadian site, w/ Vancouver
Denver-weather, 75K+ stadium
Kansas City-non-coastal, Arrowhead, 75K+ stadium
Dallas-#4 city
Houston-#5 city, 4th Mexican location
DC-national capital
New York-#1 city
Boston-weather

Non-selects
Atlanta-dome, weather
Miami-weather, 3 Mexican sites have Latin market covered
Orlando-weather, #23 city
Nashville-#36 city
Cincy-#29 city
Baltimore-proximity to NY & DC
Philly-same

But I predict one of the southeastern sites will get it over KC.

Atlanta and Miami are 100% getting games.

I'm so jacked up. Feels good juxtaposed to how terrible that December day in 2010 felt when we got boned by Qatar.

Miami didn't get Copa America games, when I was absolutely sure they would considering half the population of Miami is from South America originally.

So I am reading up on the new format (this may have been covered) and they are saying all group stage ties will be determined by a shootout. So you could essentially have a team in a shootout who didn't play that day since the groups are of 3?

Am I wrong?

Yeah but Miami has really redone hard rock stadium since copa it’s a fantastic renovation and much cooler. I can’t see Florida getting shut out in both cities especially for someplace like KC. Gateway to South America and easy to get around. Hopefully games will be at night though.

Miami's stadium is one hell of a drive, or so I'm told.

The host city's population and parking are issues, but not overly important considerations. Yes, a fair number of locals will be going, however, just as many visitors will be there. I doubt that many of those will be driving from city to city, or using their rental cars to get to matches.

There will be plenty of shuttles, and other ways for visitors to get from accommodations to venues without driving themselves.

Disney is huge. Internationals traveling will visit it, or even stay there following their teams. Don't forget, Disney OWNS ESPN, if for one minute you don't think that plays a part in the business of all this?

It’s a decent drive from south beach but it’s your pretty standard interstate/turnpike drive that a lot of these newer big stadiums involve. It’s certainly not as far as SF or Arlington’s stadiums.

Yeah. The cowboys stadium. As far as I know it’s a pretty decent drive from downtown Dallas/ the more fun areas to vacation and party.

ETA: both hard rock and cowboys stadiums are listed as 18.5 miles on google maps from downtown dallas(obviously a huge variance) and south beach respectively.

I make the drive from Lower Greenville (Dallas proper) to Globe Life Park (Rangers stadium) 60+ times a year.

It takes me 20 minutes in normal traffic. If there's a wreck, maybe 30-40 minutes.

It's not bad at all.

ETA: The Rangers' stadium is next door to AT&T Stadium

ESPN may not have the rights. Fox has the rights for 2022 as well as this year, and the sites will be chosen in the next 2 or 3 years.

Yeah see my edit. It’s about the same distance. The only difference I’d assume is going over the water/south beach obviously slower speed at the start of the south Florida drive.

Yeah, Arlington isn't a bad drive at all as long as there isn't a wreck.

Obviously if there is you can kind of be fricked, but even with the construction that's been going on there for like the last two years it's a pretty quick drive.

Idk why people always think it's like 45 minutes away or whatever. It's not Santa Clara
