I don’t know why that’s “lol” worthy. You don’t believe her? Seems like it would be easily provable.

Why the hell else would she say anything other than getting him removed

Seems like letting his wife take the fall is the spin. I’d be willing to bet Claudio mentioned he had dirt on Gregg during the WC, especially after the first two matches.

I don’t think saying “but we never threatened Gregg” is a good cover either. Merely mentioning you have some incriminating story about Gregg to US Soccer executives is blackmail. Reynas are morons.

If this was done my his parents in private (and that seems believable), I don’t see why a non-US manger wouldn’t call up Gio.

However, he certainly wouldn’t ever take any calls from Claudio Reyna.

The USSF is a bunch of middle school children. This is pathetic and embarrassing for everyone involved.

Former United States men's national team captain Claudio Reyna sent multiple messages to U.S. Soccer executives during the World Cup threatening to reveal sensitive details about USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter's past, multiple sources told ESPN. The messages began after his son, Gio Reyna, was informed he would have a limited role at the tournament.

Is this true or not? It makes a big difference.

Like “Gregg has no right to expose someone for what they did at a young age considering his own history”.
that’s very plausible, but it isn’t an apples to apples comparison. One was a dude having a stupid/reckless physical altercation with his gf after they’d gotten drunk at a bar. The other is a guy slacking off, moaning, and being a piss poor teammate during the biggest event in sports. Neither one makes the specific person a bad guy if they learn and grow from it.
But again, they’re totally separate incidents and just because something happens to your son doesn’t mean you should go bringing up a past event that EVERYONE that was involved in has completely moved on from.

Saying she doesn't want someone fired

She didn’t say she didn’t want him fired, she said she didn’t ask for him to be fired.

Agreed, but at the same time I wouldn't blame a future coach for not wanting to deal with people who have a reputation of lashing out when things don't go their way.

Why? Gregg doesn’t need to be the coach. We need to move on. A kid can’t control what a parent does. Gio will be back.
If the next coach comes in and determines that Gio is not at the required level, what will his parents do to get dirt on and fire the next guy? Not saying it’s definitely going to happen. Just giving a reason as to why he might be overlooked in the future.

That's just naive. You don't bring up a domestic violence issue in this day and age not expecting heads to roll over it.

Claudio won’t have any info on those guys. I guess this means the US will be wary of hiring Giovanni van Bronckhorst though.

I wouldn’t have done it, but I do understand the Reynas being very protective of their son, especially considering their family history. Gregg shouldn’t have made the comments about Gio, but it would be more respectable for Claudio to have gone straight at Gregg.

Well hopefully we don't limit our search to only American coaches

Any idiot that watched soccer knows that he was severely underplayed.

Who cares?

We need Gregg out and a new coach to play the best players to win.
