Incredible that Jordan Morris still gets selected. Makes it quite clear we are probably not any better than we have been previously and that the player pool is still just as shitty despite growing representation in European leagues.

This is certainly a take.
What European winger should’ve been called in instead?

Only disappointment is Pefok.
Two theories:
1. Gregg thinks he doesn’t fit the pressing system
2. He’s already a lock but has a niggle that they don’t want to risk, and the competition this camp is between Pepi and Sargent for the final spot.
I prefer option 2

My man is mad about no Julian Green and is just lashing out at poor Jordan.

So if you sub Jedi for Yedlin and Weah for Arriola or Morris, that’s my WC roster barring injury. I wouldn’t mind Pefok over Pepi either.

I am not who you directed the question to but I will give it a shot with two answers.
1. Zendejas
2. Bring Pefok and use Sargent for cover on the wing.

Zendejas
Why in the final camp before the World Cup would you bring in someone who is on par with Morris and has never been in a USMNT camp.
I’m all for triggering El Tri, but Zendejas isn’t good enough to call-in this late sight unseen.
As for the Pefok, Sargent thing, Sargent isn’t a winger, no matter how much Norwich wants you to believe he is.
Hell, the whole reason Sargent had been cast out into the cold was when he put in the worst shift of his USMNT career at Honduras, the one time we used him as a winger.
Gregg got the tactics all wrong in that first half and Pepi bailed him out, but Sargent was dreadful out wide.

To me it's a royal rumble between Vines, Cannon, Scally and Yedlin for Jedi's vacated spot right now. I actually think Yedlin might be in the lead going into this camp.

Jedi for Vines
Weah for Morris
Steffen maybe for Horvath or Johnson
And maybe Pefok for whoever looks the worst between Pepi, Tillman, and Sargent.
If fully healthy, that’s our 26.
No Haji, no Vasquez, no Zendejas, no Sands, no Brooks, no Ream, no Slonina, no Palmer-Brown, no McKenzie, no Shaquell Moore, no Mihailovic, no Lletget, no Jozy, no Zardes

The more that I think about it, I think it's just Vines vs Scally for the backup LB spot and Cannon vs Scally in a utility defender role with Scally able to play both outside backs and Cannon able to play RB and CB in a back three.
Yedlin feels like a lock. He was called in for every World Cup Qualifying camp and I think Gregg values the fact that he is literally the only one with World Cup experience. It's something that should be valued in a depth piece at least.

I’ll be honest, I used to be a USMNT fan before club, but the miss last cycle pretty much killed most of my interest in being super knowledgeable on the side and players. I definitely could be in the minority regarding this as well.
I do not know who would be better, but imo, Jordan Morris even being considered for the final team is baffling. I’ve had major doubts regarding his drive and competitive nature after Jermaine said he was afraid to move to the bundesliga. His involvement shows, at least to me, that we hardly progressed the player pool over the last decade in regards to depth.

Green had the nuts to score the equalizer against the reigning world champs. Seems to show up in big international games in general.
Morris is more concerned about any threat of change to his professional comfort zone and what his insulin levels are than maximizing his footballing ability.

But he is one of the better aerial threats and finishers in the pool.
Is he? There is no one better?

Morris also scored the last USMNT goal in stoppage time to save a point. It was a first choice USMNT squad too.
Like I said before in this thread, Morris is nothing more than a depth piece that may only be in this camp because Tim Weah is hurt, but if you're going to point out his deficiencies, it's only fair to acknowledge what he does well also.

Players who can play wing.
Pulisic
Weah
Aaronson
Reyna
Morris
Arriola
You throw Sargent in as a winger late in a game you are winning in. Hence I used the term cover.
Sam Vines has not been with the National team in forever. This would be the chance for Zendejas to get a look and expose him to the system. He could of been a place holder for Weah this window like Morris probably is.

No McKenzie is a bit surprising to me. He seems to be doing well with his club and our CB position isn’t exactly rock solid at this point.
I hope Pepi over Pefok is injury related. I know it’s not apples to apples, but Pepi had to leave the bundesliga to find minutes while Pefok has 2 goals and 3 assists in 5 games with Union Berlin. I would have liked to see both brought, perhaps at the expense of maybe a guy like Morris who is a known commodity and probably isn’t going to Qatar if pulisic, Reyna, weah, arriola are healthy.

But why?
Have you even seen him play? He's decent like Jordan Morris is decent, and in this instance, at least you know what you're dealing with with Morris.
This camp is all about tuning up for the World Cup, there will be plenty of time to introduce new guys to the system after Qatar.
