Zidane dictated the game, it went the way he wanted it to.

This. No one had more of an impact on the pitch as a whole than Zidane.

You take away Ronaldo's knee injuries and I doubt there's any debate. He basically had Messi's dribbling and ball control plus Cristiano's speed & strength all in one.

I don't think Yaya is a top 5 but I see where you're coming from. When he was on you weren't playing City, you were playing Yaya and friends. It was amazing to watch how he just bossed the entire field.

Best I've ever watched was Zidane.

unfortunately it was a short window of him being in a position to display his prowess on the ball before his peak was over. had he been playing midfield all along at Monaco and Barca, I don't think this would even be a conversation.

The goals against Villa and Palace are my two favorite of his City career. His sheer athleticism in his prime was a grade above everyone else on the pitch.

I would say Messi from the players I have watched a lot of...

Ronaldo would have been next and maybe better, had it not been for the knees...

Ronaldinho probably had the most natural ability of all, but never had the dedication required to be in the conversation at the end...

Obviously, a case could be made for the others, as well...

That's part of it. Even then, he got to where he just didn't GAF anymore. He would try to skate by all match and turn it on for 10 minutes at the end for the last 3 years. When he tries he's still a badass, but those times are few and far between.

as a fellow liverpool fan i understand the hate for MU. but paul scholes has more goals and assists than xavi hernandez, for a club that's on the same level. let that sink in.

I would have Iniesta as the best ever midfielder over Zidane. He didn't rack up goals and assists like some attacking MFers, but he dominated midfields for a decade. Won every trophy in the game, including a World Cup winning goal in the final minutes. When Iniesta started to decline, Barcelona went from an unstoppable force to a looking human.

Iniesta wasn't even the best midfielder on his team until Xavi left
