We don't want any of the players in our pool to go to college.

He can speak for himself, but I read it as a way of increasing the player pool. Going to college is a waste of time for professional level players.

The biggest hurdle to developing young soccer players in the U.S. today is Fortnight.

I'm aware that this is the standard view and as with baseball and tennis, few of the very top players would go to college (or not for very long). But the promise of scholarships would keep more good players in the game longer. And the standard view doesn't have the best track record in this country.

One of USA's problems is that college is the de facto minor league for most of our major sports. As previously mentioned Title IX doesn't help at all. Because we're operating outside of the college system, the money/investment/infrastructure just isn't in place for us to be successful ad developing youth yet.

NCAA also has a ton of restrictions as far as the length of the season, practice time, etc.

Judging by how many players are obsessed with it, we might be closer than we think

So Europeans and Asians don't play video games? Solid point.

And Croatia is also awesome at basketball challenging the Dream Teamers.
But America sucks at soccer because:
I don't play soccer guys:
LeBron James
Barry Sanders
Deion Sanders
Herschel Walker
Dominique Wilkens
Jordan
Bo Jackson
Kobe
You could go on and on...the most naturally gifted American athletes play basketball and football.
That's it.

This is a dumb argument.
For the umpteenth time, athletes aren't the problem.

Croatia's population is close, but slightly smaller than the Phoenix metro area.

We don't develop our players for shite compared to the rest of the world. That's the problem, not pure athleticism

I have to admit, we are getting much better at the game at the younger ages. If you watch any of our youth teams you’d know there’s some real quality that’s coming up and a lot of it. Lots of players at European clubs training with the best and even a lot that are getting developed at MLS academies, and probably one of our best youths right now came from a Soccer Club (St Louis Scott Gallagher). When you think about the sheer amount of kids (24 million) who play soccer here there’s plenty that are slipping through the cracks or might not be getting the development they need. But things are still looking better than they ever have as far as developed elite talent.

No question, you are correct. But I won’t lie, when I was watching Lukaku (6’3 207) running around on that field a few days ago, I was DEFINITELY thinking about how we probably have the potential to produce more physically dominant guys like that than anyone else. It isn’t the answer, but it’s easy to consider when you don’t know much about the game (or are learning it).

You're not kidding. They are pumping out stud's left and right.
Since STLFC (USL) and Scott Gallagher are one club, the kids who are like 13-16 get to do some training with the pro level squad. Awesome opportunity to develop and play that type of comp at that age.
there are also random games where there will be 200+ watching 14 y/o play.
