So much for being the Netflix "killer" it was purported to be.

Comicbook News
quote:

Disney+ will not host R-rated content, a representative for the streaming service confirmed at Disney’s bi-annual D23 Expo over the weekend.

quote:

It was learned over the weekend Disney pulled the plug on Book of Enchantment, an original Disney+ series inspired by Disney’s line of Villains-branded books centered around iconic Disney foes like Maleficent and Ursula. According to Deadline, who broke the news, executives balked when it became obvious the series was “going into a darker direction than anticipated.”

The dark tone clashed with the overall family-friendly aim of Disney+, which comes with an option for customers to engage a kids-only version.

We'll, I guess that explains the really low monthly price.

This isn't news. It's been known since the beginning it'd be like this. The less family friendly shows will be on Hulu. I also think the D+ launch content is pretty underwhelming. They have a good bit of stuff in the pipeline, but I think it will take more than a year to build up a critical mass of really compelling original content.

Also, it's not going to be Netflix vs. D+ for most people, it's going to be the $30 a month and the amount of content you get by having Netflix AND D+/Hulu/ESPN+ means it will be a lot harder for other services to be part of the average person's service mix.

I think the streaming cable services are in trouble, it's hard to justify an additional $45+ per month on a service that you don't watch as much as the ones you're paying $15 per month for.

to be fair, MANY of the shows I watch on Netflix would actually be a little better if there weren't forced TnA..I don't mind it, just hard to tell people how great Marco Polo is when half of its an orgy

That show flopped second season. Couldn't even finish it.

The plan was always to have it and hulu be separate, hosting different types of content. The bundle might end up a netflix killer though.

The launch content may be slightly underwhelming but when this is all within the first year that isn’t underwhelming:

Clone Wars Season 7
The Mandalorian
Cassian Andor Stand-alone Series
Obi-Wan Stand-alone Series

How is that an issue? They can have R content on Hulu and keep Disney for kids.

The combination of Disney, Hulu and ESPN will be damaging to Netflix. Killer? No but it will hurt them. I plan to drop Netflix at some point to check out Disney and get caught up on Hulu, then dump them and head back. Already rotate some of the players from time to time.

Yeah. Since people were surely expecting R-rated entertainment from Pixar, Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, etc., they had to entice them with a low price.

They will have the entire Disney and 20th Century Fox libraries at launch. There's plenty of content. I'm guessing Fox has some kid friendly movies that could end up on Disney+ but most of that will be on hulu.

The Punisher would suck if it was on Disney+
